I am sure that a lot of people don’t know that there is an SEO benefit in having good quality outgoing links from your site. Although it is rather hard to proof it, but I believe that outgoing links can be very useful for Search Engines to understand what your site (or page) is all about. And it acts like a neighbourhood/community thing. I believe that good outbound links act as a source of information for your visitors, thus the importance of outbound links should not be forgotten.

Of course, this means that you should make sure the page you are linking to is useful to your viewers and the information related to your page.

Check out this in-house article: Telling Search Engines what your page is all about -Outgoing Links. This article is actually a re-write of an old article: Outgoing Links – Go for It!

Sad, it looks like a lot of autho-rity’s pages has gone supplemental.  I mean, like out of 900 pages indexed by Google, around 800 or more has gone into that really ugly hellhole. And these are all unique pages with content! Just last week, only a few were insupplemental.

Looks like Google is going overboard with this supplemental thing.  But I don’t understand why?

Disappointing: Supplemental Results

Well, some of the pages of Auth-rity.com went into supplemental yesterday.  Just like that. All the site descriptions are unique (I wrote them myself and each has more than 500 characters) and I blocked spider access to the RSS feeds. But still they went into supplemental. Hmmm…..so it is true, links are actually more important to prevent supplemental than unique content.

So I will now try link to the internal pages and see whether the supplemental will go away. Yes, I am very disappointed.

Sitemaps can help big directories?

Is that true? Some directories like Skaffe, GoGuides  and Joeant have very very deep categories.  And thus it takes a lot of clicks to reach their deep categories. And so does Search Engines spiders. They have to wallow deep down to get to the listings.  So I have been reading up on GoGuide.org where they claim that Google reads their sitemap and if there are additions even in the deep categories, they will index it fast. Do you guys think that is true?

I had thought that Sitemaps is mainly used for naviagtion purposes.

Sadly, no matter what Search Engines haven been telling us, content is still not king. Links and links from authority sites are.  Well, I too would like to believe that content is king, but from experience, that is not true. I have seen it too many times.

So true. And too bad.

How much will you be willing to spend on links per month? And on which type of sites would you like these links to be in?

This of course assumes that your site is a business site and you need to do a constant stream of linkbuilding.

Please comment.

I have started a simple project. The idea is to find out how often does Google updates their cache of a site.

I have listed down all my sites and the dates which the cache is updated (main page only). Maybe we can see a pattern from this and optimize further.

You can view the project here.

Hi all,

Woke up with a headache today. Don’t know why.

Anyway, John Scott from V7n has suggested something interesting if you are looking to submit your websites to a paid directory.  He calls it Web Directory Authority Rank.

See what you made of it.
