The weather in Singapore is crazy! At the beginning of the week, it was raining cats and dogs till it flooded in several areas of our fine country. Then when it came Friday and Saturday, the sun was blazing like mad. So warm that most of us couldn’t stand the heat, we have to visit the air-conditioned shopping malls for comfort. Whatever. This week is a rather boring week for Castle Age players. There is nothing new happening at all.  Yes, we got a new hero for “sale” but that is about it. I guess the developers must be too busy counting their profits to do any real programming.  Or they are too busy at MySpace?

Anyway, I am currently involved in a mad serpent / dragon hunt. I have been slaying serpents continuously since the beginning of the week. It has been fruitful. Not wonder a lot of seasoned players say that serpent hunting has great rewards, especially in the form of favor points! You can’t get enough of favor points right? We always need more of those. You use favor points to do refills at the Oracle, or to purchase new heroes or to get chances at the chests. I myself often use fps to do refills, so as to gain level faster. Of course, I am doing dragon hunting as well. But due to the fact that for dragons, you can only expand stamina while serpents you can expand both energy and stamina, making serpents more flexible to engage. I would highly encourage players to go for serpent hunting and only engage in dragon hunting if you are no choice. And of course, there is a problem with serpent/dragon hunting – finding enough serpents and dragons! I have to join a serpent hunting group in order to get enough sources of serpents to fight.

They hate me. They really hate me. The developers I mean. Hitting for 7 million of damage/defense and I got 3 epics which are not impressive at all. Perhaps the 1 favor point they have given me reduced the rest of the rewards? Well, at least I didn’t get those stupid Gladiators which nobody wants.

And now I begin my serpent/dragon hunt. The problem is that I slain just too many serpents / dragons that it would be impossible to list them all down. So what I would do is to give you a list of serpents I killed and the amount of favor points I have received. That would you guys won’t be confused with too much data.

Amethyst Sea Serpents slain – 10  Favor points – 4

Emerald Sea Serpents slain – 8   Favor points – 1

Ancient Sea Serpents slain – 15   Favor points – 13

Sapphire Sea Serpents slain – 2   Favor points – 1

Gold Dragons slain – 3   Favor points – 0

Emerald Dragons slain – 1   Favor points – 0

Frost Dragons slain – 5   Favor points – 0

Ancient Red Dragons slain – 3   Favor points – 2

There you have it. Killed quite a number of dragons and serpents. The favor point drops are quite good. About 21 favor points for 50 kills. The reasons why the ancients drop more favor points could be because I hit those ancients more (harder to kill). More damage equals to more chances of having favor points (or more favor points if lucky). I really doubt that they drop more favor points compared to other dragons and serpents. But further experiments are needed to be sure.

Anyway, I have come to the end of this little update. I will be continuing this little serpent/dragon hunt of mine for sometime. We can’t get enough of favor points right? See you next time!

Level: 250 Date: 18-July-2010 Mood: Wass-up!

How are all of you? It has been a rather busy week for me, for both my work and my other life (if you don’t know what I am talking about, it’s Castle Age). My workload in the office has increase like three fold and my boss is constantly breathing down my neck, but of course, my pay has not increased one bit and I think my head is going to explode soon. Anyway, there have been some new additions in Castle Age, first of which is the new reinforcement which like the previous reinforcement thingy, they give you rewards for getting more “army” members. Mine was instant because I had gained more “army” members previously than was necessary for the rewards.

Yes, but too bad there isn’t an hero to claim.  I am guessing that the developers of Castle Age do not want to have too many free generals available or the demand for favor points might reduce and they can’t get money from players wanting more favor points. It makes good business sense not to saturate stuff which their cash cow brings.

Yes, the rewards are not impressive but these set of items and weapons could be for a new upcoming hero. Hopefully.

But this Solar Desolation is quite okay. Not the best magic, but quite good nevertheless. And it is free. Not much effort is needed on our part to get it either. Just add more “army” members and you are done. The trick is just to post in the Castle Age forums your profile and you get numerous requests to join their armies. Fun.

Next we have this Ivory City quests. Basically you will have to complete all these quests and summon some powerful monster, same as last time. Only difference now is that you will have to spend loads of money and enormous amount of time and effort to complete like 12 quests. The previous Azriel (Kingdom of Heaven) quests need just 10. Those older ones need like 4 out of 5 quests completed. The developers really hate us or think that we have too much time in our hands.

Aaaawwwwwwhhhhh……it’s a bigger, meaner and uglier Mephistopheles! In Castle Age, they call it Alpha Mephistopheles.

Summon Alpha Mephistopheles! I think I won’t be doing this anytime soon. I still have even started on the Kingdom of Heaven quests yet. Been too busy fighting monsters and trying to level up fast.

Ugly brute. Look at the numerous weapons that can be launched at him. And he still has about one quarter life remaining. Nasty. Sure, those 1000 level players make this so easy but seriously, once the normal players start fighting Alpha Mephistopheles, it won’t be as easy as that. Just like Azriel nowadays. You see so many failures. Even the Alpha Bahamut, I am starting to see a trend of failures happening more and more often. The developers need to slow down the number of monsters available or this might get too frustrating for players soon.

Some interesting loot but might not worth the effort. And stop giving us Gladiators! We hate those buggers.

Okay enough of the new features, we now go back to the rewards! We just love (loot) rewards don’t we? Kind of like Christmas, where you eagerly await the opening of presents. I must admit, I enjoy that part too. So without further ado, we shall begin!

I wanted this to be a speed kill. It went down in under 30 minutes but I got nothing, not even a medal for my efforts. I had to spend US$10 for 60 favor points and just look at the loot! Crappy as well. This is very disappointing for me. I normally don’t spend money to play this kind of games but I wanted a little thrill. Over 4.6 million in damages and defense and nothing to show for. Not even one favor point back. I think I will go and cry now.

Wooohoooo! I have got some good news! I have finally gotten 2 more heroes – Hyperion and Darius.  The hero Darius is from some reinforcement thingy. Basically it is some sort of Castle Age exercise which encourages you to get more “army” members to join you. So the more “army” members you have, the more rewards they will give you. Ultimately you will get the hero Darius. I got him in under a few hours once I realize that there is such a new feature.

Yup they call it reinforcements.  Seyou just need 2 more “army” members to get the first gift – Crushing Blade. The next few gifts are also given at 2 army members intervals. Easy.

Yes, the last gift is the Hero Darius. Not too difficult to achieve if you know how this works. If I am not wrong, the Darius general is also given as a reward for the Master when his apprentice reaches level 50 or something. So I wonder is there any new rewards or gifts for that now that we can get the general through the reinforcement route? Knowing Castle Age developers and their skill in acting blur, they probably won’t. They didn’t even complete the Altantis quest!

Yes, we now have Darius and his huge blade. Kind of cool to have all the necessary equipments for your hero in one shot, do you think?

Sorry, forgot to take a screenshot when I first got him. He was level 2 when I did the screenshot. And his “virgin” attack and defense stats are 15/15. And Darius is a pretty good general, except for his special ability which in my opinion, is crap. But Darius and his items are all free, so I better shut up now. All hail the Castle Age developers! And what is this Lionheart Civil War about?

Oh, Hyperion! Finally got all the necessary alchemy ingredients to summon him. You need a helm, a sword and one arm. Isn’t it amazing what you can do with alchemy? Took me quite a while to get all those ingredients from fighting in the War of the Red Plains. I was pretty unlucky I guess but I got 2 of all the ingredients needed. Which is good, since all these ingredients do help improve Hyperion’s abilities.

See my superior strength has persuaded Hyperion to my side. Amazingly he has 2 arms. I wonder how that works….

Oh, his attack and defense stats are the same as Darius. Are they related somehow? Since the developers did not do any writeup on the Hyperion character, we can only guess. Oh, the special ability of Hyperion is kind of cool, since he adds attacks to the War council. So it means this hero helps during War. I like.

Oh, and I got very lucky in the loots after fighting one of the serpents. 4 favor points!!! That is truly amazing! Castle Age developers do love me.

Okay, I guess it is time for what we usually do – find out what loots and rewards are there after slicing and dicing our enemies. Don’t you just love games in which monsters “drops” stuff after they are killed? The single most exciting thing about RPGs is finding out the loot our enemies drop after we slay them. We are all that greedy by nature.

Nothing really impressive. No Dragon Scale either but I didn’t hit that hard either. Basically this is for the Dragon achievement – I want my favor points! Oh, new unit appears – Sun Eagle. I can be very sure that it was not in any of my rewards previously, so it should be a new unit. But then this Sun Eagle isn’t exactly a very powerful unit.

After slaughtering nearly 9,000 Zenareans, they gave me 2 pieces of EPIC crap – Holy Smite. What the hell? But at least I got one favor point. Sometimes I think that the developers need to really get their thinking straight and start rewarding players who put in more effort than the rest. I was the 3rd highest hitter in my category. No legendary loot either. I think I will go one corner and cry.

Wow, I didn’t realize that I seldom fight Lotus. And I didn’t realize that taking down Lotus takes a lot of effort. She is one tough scary lady/bitch to take down. Just look at her weapon (onslaught) and her gauntlet. I bet she got her weapon onslaught from the Goblin as well. You need plenty of hard hitting friends to slay her. I nearly failed but I was lucky, someone else came and took over the fight. Anyway the loot I got is a complete crap.

After slaughtering so many silly Zenareans, they finally dropped some important stuff for me to pick up and make little Hyperion. Yes, the Virtue of Fortitude allowed me to summon Hyperion and I added one more hero to my little army! Oh, and I got 2 favor points! Hooray!

Free! They are giving away a free general! I don’t believe it, but it is true. Castle Age is giving away a free general! Well, basically what you need to do is to have your friends send to you some gifts in order to create this hero. Yup, so what I did was to ask my friends to keep on gifting each other till we got all the necessary alchemy pieces  to create that hero.  I love the Castle Age developers for making this so very convenient for us.

There, 2 pieces of each and you are able to create Elin.

And that is exactly what happened. My superior strength has persuaded Elin to my side! Wait, that is not true. More like I have to much free time on my hands that day. Nope, I didn’t publish it to my friends. I am not a show-off, okay!

Wow, twin sister of Zarevok! She does not quite have the brute strength as her brother but she definitely received most of the smarts, which makes her a fearsome warrior in battle. Basically what they are saying is that Zarevok is a dumb ass pea-brain brute with a huge sword. Elin is smarter and yes, pleasant to look at, even with all those armour. And unlike most other female heroes, this one doesn’t seem to like to show off her boobs. Take for example, the below female heroes from Castle Age:

It is like one big Facebook Girls Gone Wild boobs-fest contest or something.  Even Keira, the demoness with two horns has big boobs! Take a look at her picture:

Look how perky they are! And amazingly, Castle Age finally came up with a female hero without showing off her humongous boobs to the world. I guess the artists for Castle Age grew up or something or suddenly turned gay. Or maybe his grandmother saw all those exotic art he drew and was not amused. Grounded him or something. Or made him wear a Chasity belt. Poor thing. Whatever, it is now time for the usual revealing of the loot from battle thingy that we all love so much.

And yes, Hyperion is within my grasp! I hope to be able to get yet another hero for my collection. Not really much of any use actually, but it is really cool to have them. And it gives me bragging rights among my friends. LOL!

I think I really killed too many orcs (or soldiers since the recent name change). STILL NO FREAKING DRAGON SCALE!!! I wonder why they hate me so. Been fighting what feels like hundreds of such battles and I have received just ONE, I repeat just ONE Dragon Scale. I have only ONE Helm of Dragon Power. I feel a bit sad. And disappointed. Wuhahahaha!

Anyway, just for your information, tactics in the War of the Red Plains do give very good results. Look at the tactics below.

Not bad considering my attack stats are pretty low at my level. Of course, it would probably be even better. This depends on luck and the equipment and items you have. Although hero stats are important, it is not as important as the equipments your heroes are equipped with. The difference between the stats of the different heroes are small compared to the items and weapons.
