Easiyo BioLife BioMum Nutritional Yogurt Base

What a name! Sometimes I wonder what those people in the marketing arm of companies do. Perhaps they just sleep the entire day and when it is time for them to do some work, they come up with long tedious names which nobody really cares. But actually the label “BioMum” does give the consumer a sense that this yogurt is meant for pregnant mothers and that it is very healthy. Well, I am not pregnant. And I am of course a male with no intention to ever get pregnant, unlike that Arnold Schwarzenegger show. But hey, what is good for pregnant mums should be good for everyone else right? Yes, that is way Easiyo has came up with this yogurt base. Yogurt is good for everybody but it seems that nutritional fortification is the main draw for this BioMum series. Well, if you believe that fortification is good for your health, then by all means, this yogurt base seemed to be full of them. Me? Well, I would prefer to go for the all-natural stuff then straight-up fortification.

Okay, we shall begin the little review!

Check it out. Brand new just for mums! This is for use in the Easiyo Yogurt Maker. Makes 1 kg. The Easiyo Yogurt Maker really makes making yogurt much easier. Just add the mixture with water into the yogurt jar, add boiling water to the insulated container, put the jar into the container and wait for 8-12 hours. You will have some great tasting yogurt in no time.

Well….the mum looks kind of cute actually. BioMum, remembers me of bionic woman.

Wow, in this BioMum series, they have probiotic abc, folic acid, calcium, iron and fibre! The probiotic abc means that good lactic cultures in the yogurt. This one comes with l.acidophilus, bifidobacteria and l.casei – thus “abc”. Most “probiotic” yogurt comes with these additional good bacteria to help maintain a healthy gut.

The back of the yogurt base pack.

Wow, with the benefits of live & active probiotic acidophilus, bifidus and casei cultures. Oh, folic acid is included as well, these are essential for growth and division of cells. Comes with calcium and iron. And finally, all natural ingredients, low Glycaemic Index, Gluten free, non GM and hala certified. Muslims should not have any problems consuming this yogurt.

Yes, we know. 220g of probiotic nutritional base! This will result in a very thick yogurt, which I like. Something like the creamy Greek yogurt. The resulting yogurt was a bit tangy but not sour. In fact, the tartness is just right. That is the reason why I always go forĀ  Easiyo base. Very very nice.

The bald guy speaks – when pregnant, a wholesome diet is most important for both your wellbeing and your baby’s development. Easiyo BioMum may assist with digestion, uptake of nutrients, immunity and nervous system function, in this new life experience. Not too sure what the bald guy means but hey, it sounds cool.

Ahhh the ingredients are pasteurized milk solids from free range cows, sugar, dietary fibre (inulin), choline I-bitartrate, live cultures (l.bulgaricus, s.thermophilus, i.acidophilus, bifidobacteria, l.casei), ferric pyrophosphate and folic acid. The first two bacteria are just the normal yogurt cultures which most yogurts are made of. They are responsible for the tangy flavour of the yogurt. Without them, you cannot make yogurt. It would be just milk.

Here are some nutritional values for you to compare. Seems that iron content is pretty impressive. Just hope that it is absorbable by your body. But from the ingredients list, it seems that it is not added or fortified. Thus, it could just be easily absorbable.

Anyway, this is made in New Zealand, which makes everyone happy. I doubt that if it is made in China, we all will be worried sick about the real ingredients that goes into the sachet. Good bye and have a nice week ahead.
