Castle Age

If you guys are familiar with Facebook, I am sure that you guys should have heard of Facebook Apps? It is some “application” developed on Facebook. Something like an “add-on” the social networking site Facebook. What it does is allow users to make use of the Facebook platform and develop software and programs. Think of it like Google apps where you can use the Google platform to do collaboration between your users. But of course, Facebook is a little less serious than Google apps. Here you can find games, networking apps and programs developed for the Facebook platform.

And one of my favourite is Castle Age. I play it nearly everyday. Sometimes even at work, I will sneak a few minutes to play Castle Age. Basically it is a web-based game where you will fight monsters like Hydras and complete quests, all in the hopes of gaining experience and up your level. And when you increase in level, you get more abilities to complete quests and fight even more monsters. Yes, it is just like your typical fight and gain level RPGs but comes with a twist. You will need to get your friends to join your army and this way, you can improve your attacks. The more friends you get to join, the more powerful your army gets. That is why they call this an “social networking site”. The main aim is for you to get to know other people on the same site. But of course, for an anti-social like me, I normally don’t do that. What I did was post my ID on some forum and people will add you to their army. It is simple, fast and you get a large army in a short period of time. Pretty smart huh? It is impossible to have several hundred real friends to join you in Castle Age anyway. Not everyone in your group likes playing games where there are monsters and orcs. Not everyone in your group enjoy spending hours clicking on the mouse just to gain a few “experience points”. So, only way is to get like-minded persons to join you is through forums. They add you to their army and you accept the invitation. That is it!

Oh, by the way, Castle Age is addictive. Very addictive. Although the concept of the game is simple – fight monsters and complete quests – the idea of improving your character, gaining gold, gaining magical weapons and completing quest is so cool. Sometimes you feel that you have to be at the computer screen the entire day just to make sure your character’s stats is perfect. I remember when I started playing Castle Age, I was virtually spending all of my time in front of the computer trying to kill this monster before the time runs out for me. They have this time system where by your stamina and energy (needed to complete quests and fight monsters) gets replenished over time, so you will have to fight, then wait a while, then fight again. Time consuming, but all so fun!

I highly recommend Castle Age to my readers. But please don’t get too addicted to it.
