Enzymes Drink – One Week Later
973 days agoCheck it out! It has been more than 1 week since I started my little enzymes drink experiment. Looks like the sugar has “sucked” out tons of liquid (or juice) from the fruits. I was just amazed to see the amount of liquid that can come out of these fruits. Well, I heard about it, but never seen it happening before. Just amazing. It has been bubbling since day 2, which is supposed to be a sign that the bacteria (or yeast) is fermenting. And when I open the bottle to let the gas escape, wow – it smells delightful! Something like those fruit jelly candies. Thank the gods I don’t smell any alcohol or vinegar.

Wow, look at how the apples have shrunk. A lot of the moisture is being sucked out to make the enzymes drink. Oh, ya, the colour seems a bit off putting eh? Perhaps I should start thinking of what type of sugar to use to make my next batch of enzymes drink. It seems that using brown sugar will result in some unpleasing colours. Nobody wants to drink a drink that looks a bit like urine. Rotijo suggested Red Dragonfruit. I think that might work very well. A red coloured enzymes would definitely look much better.
And this one produces some small bubbles. I was expecting bigger bubbles than this.

Oh, if I am not wrong, the thin slice of leftover fruit at the bottom is the Water Apple. The skin (which is supposed to be red) seems to have disappeared! Wow, just shows how powerful the sugar is in “sucking” out stuff. Or perhaps it is just that the Water Apple skin is very fragile?

Another view of the 1 week old enzymes drink. I give it a quick shake once per day to coat the fruits with the liquid. Don’t want mold to form on the fruits. And I let “burp” the bottle once every 2 or 3 days.
Well, give you guys another update this weekend when I open up the bottle and have my first taste of the urine coloured enzymes drink. Hey, life can sometimes be that exciting!

Hi Admin,
May be my eyes got some problem. I see beautiful sweet bubble tea in your fermenting jar, where got urine? If your urine is this color, please go for medical checkup, hahaha… just kidding.
Big bubbles, small bubbles are all good bubbles signifying activities and life. Hey your enzyme drink looks promising. Taste wise, if you are not bothered by the bitter after taste (caused by the lemon skin) you will find it nice I think. Let’s see if my prediction is accurate or not.
Go easy on red dragon fruit, it will give you a slimy end product. If you can find roselle, go for it. It’s nice with pineapple and tomatoes. Very RibenX taste wise.
A mentor/friend of mine, Thomas aka Enzymo is a diy enzyme genius. He has just launched a beautifully put together DIY enzyme recipe book. Go visit him to find out more,

Wuhahaha, try the male toilet. Lol! There are guys out there who do not understand the meaning of flushing the toilet. So this is actually the colour…gross!
Do you think the bitter aftertaste will be too bad? If I remember correct, I used two lemons. The reason why I did take off the skin is because I saw from several photos of DIY enzyme drinks, they seem to have the lemon skin on. Aiya, getting old already. Cannot see very well.
Wow, this guy is really a big fan of enzymes drinks eh? Actually, if there are beneficial bacteria in the enzymes drink, it is a product worth promoting. I was wondering, do you feel that Kefir or Enzyme drinks is a much better health drink? The biggest problem I see with the Enzymes drink is that it takes rather long (weeks), as compared to 1 day for Kefir.
Hey I am a 100% lady and had never stepped into any male toilet, what makes you think that I am going to do that just to verify the urine color you described? I would stick to sweet bubble tea…heh heh.
Wow, 2 lemons with yellow jackets for that little jar? Hmmm, it will be bitter. I bet you did not discard the seeds huh. It will add to the bitterness. Be ready to squeeze your eyes when you drink it.
Lemon with skin on is actually more beneficial, if it’s organically grown.
Kefir has more bac/yeast strains and you get the goodness and nutrients of pre-digested milk.
Enzyme derived from fruits and veg has its own merits, so a bit hard to compare. I drink my kefir milk with 30ml diy enzyme. Yummy !! Kick vitagex and yakulx out of the boxing ring.
A lot of people like to make enzyme as they only need to work on it once in 3-4 weeks (the bac works hard) whereas kefir is a daily chore (you need to work hard). Think about that…haha.
Actaully my kefir had been conditioned to be strained once a week and is growing super fast. you can add better bacteria to it like yakulx’s jap strain of caseii…and it taste similar…well if you dun want to strain ur kefir so often, just keep in fridge for 1 week or 2…end results is the same. coz my small batch from admin had been shared with lotsa friends, even sold them thru ebay. they super easy to grow with a air tight container and real UHT milk in fridge.
Hi Kelmund,
I use your suggested method for my backup grains but I do not leave them in the cold for a prolonged period of time. I kind of rotate them in shift work. 1 week in the fridge (easy work) and 1 week out to work for 7 days.
As I compare the end results of backup grains and the working grains, all of us in the family prefer the ones produce at room temperature. The yeast ratio increases as you store them in the fridge and worse under closed lid. Yeast is good for us but when it gets too much, it may turn against us.
I feed them with raw milk and my grains grow from one rice bowl to two, in a typical 5 days cycle now, brewed at room temperature.
What I said so far is only my personal experiences and 2 cents worth
Sad, we don’t have access to raw milk in Singapore.
Actually I have tried making Yakult myself, using yakult and milk. However, from Yakult’s website, they say that their bacteria is cultured at 45 degrees, so I had to use a yogurt maker. The taste is okay, but then I am not sure whether it is really yakult or not since I have never tried unsweetened yakult before.
