The name is just kind of sad. And long. I was wondering what they were thinking when they were thinking of a name to name their drink. Hmmm….I got it, let’s call it “Blueberry & Cranberry & Mixed Fruit Juice”! So there you have it, few of the most brilliant minds working in F&N came up with such a charming name. Unlike of course, Peel Fresh’s “Powerberries” name, which sucks badly. Seriously! LOL! It is just too bad that F&N never list down all the fruits they use it this drink, I think they will probably run out of space.

Anyway, it is interesting to note that this packaged juice is actually quite nice and agreeable to me, which is surprising since I never liked Cranberry juice. Unlike most other juices which do not have any added sugar, this is not at all sour. A plus for them. So I am guessing that the amount of blueberries is way more than the cranberries, since we all know that cranberry juice is sour. And they probably add other fruit juices to enhance the sweetness as well. You aren’t going to sell fruit juice to the general consumer if the juice is going to be very tart. Oh, by the way, Peel Fresh also has a juice based on blueberries called “Powerberries” which is a mix of different kinds of berries. All those advertisements are making me giddy.

There, the F&N Fruit Tree Fresh – Blueberry & Cranberry & Mixed Fruit Juice. Hey, it is made with pure squeezed juice and concentrates. I never liked concentrates as I believe that the process which made the juice into concentrates tend to darken the colour and destroy the taste and aroma. Furthermore, high heat process will destroy some of the nutrients and vitamins in the juice.

Maybe I am right? Just look at the amount of blueberries(blue ones) as compared to the amount of cranberries. Although it is full of antioxidants, Cranberries are infamous for being very tart.

Ha, no sugar added, which is good. Adding sugar to fruit juices is a crime.

Hmmm….health tip from the Health Pormotion Board! And bought to you exclusively by F&N. They ask a question – do you know that different fruits and vegetables are rich in different nutrients? Furthermore, brightly coloured fruits (eg. oranges, cranberries and blueberries) and vegetables (eg carrots, spinach and tomatoes) contain more nutrients and phytochemicals than pale coloured ones. So include colourful fruits and vegetables in your daily diet to obtain a medley of nutrients for your body. I completely agree. Go ahead and eat more colourful fruits and vegetables. However, I need to tell you guys that drinking packaged fruit juices is NOT a substitute for eating fruits. Even if you drink “fresh” packaged juices, you will still need to consume fresh fruits as the packaged juice do not have all the nutrients and vitamins present in fresh fruits. Heck, even freshly squeezed fruit juices direct from the fruits shop is not a perfect substitute for eating fresh fruits.

F&N Fruit Tree Fresh is made from 100% juice of the choicest hand-picked fruits including blueberries & cranberries. Blueberries are wonder fruits prized for their nutritious properties and contain natural antioxidant (from naturally occurring Anthocyanins). Each serving of this delicious juice meets 100% of your RDA of vitamin C (antioxidant) and serves as one serving of fruit in your daily diet. (Bad advise here – even if no nutrients and vitamins are destroyed in the process, there is still very little fiber in fruit juice, especially filtered ones) With no artificial sweeteners or sugar added, what you get is pure taste of juice as nature intended.

Check out the nice blueberries and cranberries surrounded by the words which states that they are high in antioxidants Vitamin C & E with naturally occurring Anthocyanins.

Check out the nutrition tips -  eat 2+2 servings of fruits & vegetables daily. One medium size fruit (eg. orange) or one glass of juice is a serving of fruit. Too bad, most of us don’t consume enough fruits & vegetables in our daily diets. Vitamin C is one of the essential nutrients vital for life. Vitamin C & E are antioxidants that help protect cells in the body against free radicals.

The ingredients are fruit juices from concentrates (pear, Apple, Blueberry, Cranberry), Aloe Vera Juice,Citric Acid, Flavouring, Stabilizer, Vitamins (C&E), Preservatives and Colourings. Hmm…..they added preservatives! And Flavourings and even colourings. This is kind of disappointing. No wonder it tasted and looked so good.

Made in Singapore. Well, errr…..hoooray! However, I am still very much disappointed with the addition of presevatives, flavourings and colourings to this juice. But I guess sometimes it is a business decision. Presevatives increase shelf life and increase profits, flavourings and colourings help to bring back customers to their products and that also helps to increase their profits.

Yes indeed. I bought two of them. If you remember, I had just recently reviewed the Fantasy Paradise flavour from Nestle. As I mentioned, they were on offer, so I bought the “Fantasy Paradise” and this “Luscious Strawberry“. All in all, I think both of them are quite delicious. The only problem I see is their packaging. It does not look appealing at all. Just imagine this on a shelf full of other brands of yogurt with superb eye catching packaging. It just doesn’t stand out enough. Heck, I am pretty sure that very few Singaporeans knew that Nestle even has yogurt in their line-up. When you talk about Nestle to most people, they would immediately think of formula milk. Furthermore, the lack of advertisement on their part is hindering their advance into the yogurt business. My opinion, sooner or later, more and more people will look at yogurt as an alternative snack. Hopefully, it is a beginning of a health revolution!

By the time I wrote this, I had already eaten the entire tub of yogurt (both of them). I don’t know why, but I can’t get enough of yogurt. Yes, I can even eat plain yogurt straight up. And if you have eaten plain yogurt, you would know that it tastes pretty tart aka sour. Well, at the very least it is much healthier than the other snacks that I used to consume.

There you have it, the photo of the Nestle Luscious Strawberry Yogurt. Just a fancy name for Strawberry Yogurt. Yup, plain old strawberry yogurt, nothing special. But good effort on the labeling there.

Huat ah! This yogurt is extra creamy and fruity. In my opinion, it would definitely be creamy if it was not for the big pieces of fruits in the yogurt. I guess the liquid in the fruits had made the yogurt slightly runnier. But hey, it is reasonable creamy still. And check out those really luscious strawberries on the label.

Yes, comes with Calcium. Good for your bones.

Source of calcium and low in fat. Wonderful. I would prefer that it is made from full cream milk rather than low fat milk, which in my opinion is basically “white water”, nutrition-wise. The net weight of this tub is 500g.

No artificial colouring! Live Cultures! Calcium! It’s Good! And if you are interested, check out the nutritional table, especially the highlighted parts.

Ahhh…the ingredients list – milk solids, sugar, strawberry fruit (strawberry, berry concentrate),mixed live cultures like l.bulgaricus and s.thermophilus, stabilizers and flavouring. Nothing too special about their ingredients. As I mentioned in my previous review, I would rather they have more types of probiotic live cultures in their yogurt. Too bad, it just comes with the normal yogurt cultures.

Nestle Yogurt -rich, creamy yet low in fat and your source of calcium.

Really Raw Honey

I finally took the courage and bought this one. However, the courage I am talking about is the willingness to spend over S$40 for this 450g of honey. Yes, it is that expensive! Sometimes I wonder whether in Singapore, only the rich can live a decent life, while the rest of us will remain in constant poverty when this ridiculous inflation gets out of hand. Feels like everywhere you go, prices is rising, while the salaries of common Singaporeans remain the same or worst. Well, enough of my whining, we are here to review this wonderful tasting honey. When I say it taste wonderful, I am not kidding. It just taste great. You know when normally consume a scoop of honey, you will find them overly sweet to the point of feeling a bit disgusted by it? You won’t find that kind of taste in this honey. The creaminess of the honey also helps ensure that it is palatable. As you know me, I don’t really like foodstuff which are too sweet. But this honey is just perfect for me.

If you guys are thinking of taking honey for its health benefit, I would highly recommend you to take raw honey. Some call it Active Honey, it is the same thing. Basically it is honey that have not been processed, making it all natural. The honey is taken from the comb, it is then cold pressed and immediately bottled. The most important thing is that it has not been heated or filtered. The main reason is because the heat will kill of the enzymes and some vitamins and nutrients in the honey, rendering it just a sweetener. Some raw honey manufacturers do use a little heat during extraction as it makes the liquid honey easier to flow. In my opinion, if the heat does not exceed 37°C, it should be alright. But I still like my honey completely raw. As for the filtering part, most manufacturer will filter their honey to remove all traces of pollen, wax, bee propolis and other stuff, simply because it looks more attractive to the consumer. Too bad. Quite a lot of the health benefits of honey comes from all these impurities as well. So, if you purchase raw honey and find some gross bits and pieces on top of the honey, don’t worry, it is actually good for you. It is just too bad that most of the honey we find in our stores these days are highly processed and some are even diluted honey. In my opinion, they are useless except for being an alternative to sugar. So always go for raw honey.

Wow, the Really Raw Honey. Bought from Guardian Pharmacy for S$47. It still contains the pollen, propolis, honeycomb and live enzymes – all the goodness the bees put in. 453g of real all-natural honey.  Oh, check out the cute little honeybee on the label with a bucket.

Yes, this is pesticide free. Totally unheated and unstrained – you do not need to worry about “dead” honey here.

Really Raw Honey is unprocessed honey that still contains natural cappings. When you open a jar of Really Raw Honey, the cappings may not be what you expect to find. That is because we are so used to refined honey that we believe honey must be clear and golden-ish. Truth is, most types of honey are not. Crunchy bits of honeycomb, pollen and propolis speckle the top in hues of brown, gold and ember – these are the “Crown Jewels” of Really Raw Honey. These natural cappings help to naturally seal in the wonderful flavour and aroma of the hive. Huh? I believe that the airtight jar is the “thing” that is sealing the flavour and aroma of the honey? In my opinion, it would be those impurities that is making the honey the superfood that it is.

It’s no secret that unprocessed honey, straight from the hive, has been used worldwide for millennia (to promote healing). The manufacturer’s hand pack process is labour intensive (probably why it is so costly) but it maintains the natural integrity of the honey. Well, that is definitely good. Finally, a lot of consumers and even manufacturers realize this and I hope that more and more will follow suit. Just imagine, our local shelves all full of natural healthy foodstuff! Really Raw Honey has been straight from the hive for over 25 years. To soften, place jar in warm water. Store in a cool place. Of course, you should always store your honey in a cool dark place.

By the way, naturally diverse-colour and texture of Really Raw Honey will vary. That is why it is “natural” what. Product of the US(another reason why it is so expensive).

Oh, the cappings on top of the honey. Once you remove these cappings, you will see the actual honey below. Even the honey below is kind of different from the honey that we are used it. It looks kind of like soft nougat with a slightly rough texture. And unlike those watery honey, you can easily scoop the honey with a spoon and the honey won’t drip off the spoon. Cool! Feels a bit like eating soft creamy cheese!

Wow, it sure looks like of gross doesn’t it? But seriously, these cappings are good for you. And it doesn’t taste half as bad either. I had thought that it would taste like beewax or worse, but hey, considering that it look like this, not that bad already. Just below those cappings, the actual honey lies waiting for your spoon which if you have the pleasure of tasting it, isn’t overly sweet like most honey. And if you take a moment when you open the jar and smell, you will be greeted with a very nice flowery, slightly lemony aroma. Unlike those commercial honey which smells a bit like vomit (probably due to fermentation).

I would highly recommend this to everyone, except that it is just too expensive. Sadly, not everyone can afford it. I am still trying to search for the most value for money raw honey but it kind of looks like I am out of luck. This Really Raw Honey not only have all the goodness of raw honey, it is so delicious and creamy as well. Oh well…
