Anlene Hi Calcium Low Fat Yogurt Mango

Well, I believe that I am getting old. So hey, why not? Taking Anlene’s milk and milk products, those experts in bone nutrition is nothing to be ashamed of. As I said, I am no longer young and due to my poor diet in the past, I am guessing that my bones aren’t that good. Although I have started taking kefir and yogurt, I am still a bit worried about my bones. Just look among my family and relatives, a lot of the older folks have problems with their bones. So, I guess we don’t need to wait till the problem comes before we start eating foods that are good for our bones. Let’s start early (that would mean NOW!).

I just only recently realized that Anlene do manufacture yogurt. We all know that they produce some bone enhancing formula milk for elderly. As for the taste, I would say that it is pretty decent. Nothing spectacular though. Seriously, it is very difficult to cock up making yogurt. Just add a good amount of sugar, a little fruit flavour and you are done. Making a superb tasting yogurt is difficult. Making a decent one is easy. However, for me, I am more interested in how this yogurt will help strengthen my bones. I don’t want to grow old with all sorts of problems. I have seen how fragile our bones can be, and when we get old, our bones health much slower than before.

Hmm….the Anlene Hi Calcium Low Fat Yogurt – Mango flavour!

Yes, they are the experts in bone nutrition. They have this formula for strong bones. I hope for strong bones too!

Hmmm….Nano-Calcium which is more than 100x smaller! Is that good? I have no idea. Most likely they meant that such the calcium is smaller, they are more easily absorbed by the body? Well, what can we do except to hope for the best. We are no bone nutrition experts. Oh by the way, there are 2 packs of 120g delicious yogurt.

Check out the nutrition table.

The ingredients are water, milk solids, sugar, mango, minerals (tri-calcium phophate, nano-calcium carbonate, magnesium phosphate), vitamin d3, live cultures (s.thermophilus, l.bulgaricus). Contains permitted stabilizers, flavouring and colouring.  Good? Well, I don’t know. But I would prefer them to use more types of probiotic cultures to make their yogurt. Nowadays, as consumers start to realize the importance of probiotics in their diet, it would be more appealing to consumers to get more probiotic cultures. I am also guessing that the milk they use (milk solids aka milk powder) is the same as those they use for the formula milk?

Made in Malaysia.  Fonterra is a New Zealand based company and they are big! Well, not as big as some of the multinational giants but still quite big.  And of course, Anelene is part of the group, and they specialize in dairy products for adults’ optimal bone health.

There, you have 2 cups of yogurt. And they are small. Just 120g of yogurt per cup.  Takes about 3-4 scoops to finish the entire thing.  Well, that is Singapore for you. Everything is puny and expensive. Sometimes you feel so helpless like the world is about to collapse and you can’t do anything about it. That is the feeling what the common Singaporeans are feeling nowadays.

Anyway, it is my opinion that eating yogurt is better than drinking milk. The cultures or bacteria in yogurt has helped break down the lactose in milk and helped create various nutrients and vitamins in the process. Thus your body does less work when you consume yogurt. And this will help your body absorb the nutrients, minerals and vitamins better. Furthermore, it is just a very tasty snack which you can take anytime of the day. So, next time when you past the dairy shelves, remember to pick up some yogurt tubs.
