Yes, I know – it is not healthy foodstuff. In fact, I think it can be considered rather unhealthy, seeing that this is “BBQ coated” peanuts. Not sure what kind of salt and oil is used to make this Koh-Kae Peanuts. But for those who have eaten this before, they will only tell you one thing – it is super delicious! Once is not enough! When I started eating this, I cannot stop. It is so damn delicious. Thank god peanuts themselves can be considered at the very least a healthy snack. If not, I worry for my heart and what will happen if I continue to eat the entire pack in one go. I mean you just cannot help yourself! Oh, by the way, I doubt you can find this in Singapore. My friend bought for me in Malaysia. Don’t be jealous. Lol.

Well, this Koh-Kae Peanuts do not have any trans-fat. Thank the gods for that. I really hate to see myself consuming all those trans-fat.

Unless you have travelled to Malaysia before, you won’t be able to find this brand in Singapore stores. Trust me, I have looked everywhere and they cannot be found! Seems that even Sheng Siong do not bring them into Singapore. Not sure why the manufacturer do not want to bring them into Singapore. Probably they believe that Singaporeans are all very health conscious freaks. But seriously, Singaporeans will love this snack.

Looks like a Japanese guy with glasses carrying a banner. Cute.

Ya, Bar-B-Q flavour coated! I like.

Nice, premium export quality. I am guessing they mean the peanuts are of higher quality. So does that mean that the snacks they make for their own local market is of inferior quality? Aiya, marketing people!

Okay now, the ingredients are peanuts, wheat flour, glutinous rice flour, corn flour, vegetable oil, Bar-B-Q flavour, sugar and salt. Of course, they don’t show what chemicals and/or spices they are using to make that “Bar-B-Q Flavour”, which I believe is artificial in nature.

See, no trans-fat!

Yes, product of Thailand. Looks like even in Malaysia, a lot of their stuff are still made in other countries. It seems that Malaysia too is suffering from the same problems in Singapore – high cost of manpower and production. So a lot of industries are shifting their production lines to other cheaper countries like China, Thailand and Indonesia. Well, welcome to globalization!

Yup, what we have here are those Koh-Kae Bar-B-Q Flavoured coated peanuts. They are salty pieces of flour coated peanuts actually. Not bad if you are looking for a quick and easy to eat snack. However, remember to eat everything in moderation. Consuming too much of this snack will definitely not be good for you.

I love green tea. Every day I would drink about 2-3 cups of green tea and I find it extremely refreshing. I am not very sure how do you describe it, but I like the taste of green tea – kind of like a cleanser of sorts. You feel very refreshed after drinking just one cup. Unlike most other drinks which would usually leave a sticky aftertaste, I never felt anything like this with green tea. That is why it is my choice of drink in the morning. Too bad, a lot of Singaporeans start their day with a cup of coffee instead of tea. Most Singaporeans need a caffeine kick early in the morning or they cannot function throughout the day. As I mentioned, too bad. In many ways, drinking tea is much much better than drinking coffee. Just imagine the amounts of antioxidants in that cup of green tea. Remember, antioxidants help fight off free radicals in your body. And yes, green tea do have some caffeine but not in the amounts of what coffee have.

Anyway, a few weeks ago, I came across this Zenya Green Tea with Pomegranate. Well, it looks interesting, being green tea and with Pomegranate. Both of them are high in antioxidants and I can imagine the punch it provides to our body if consumed. So I bought 2 bottles of this Zenya drink.

Yes, it is red in colour! The drink itself is also red in colour by the way. Kind of shocking!

Green Tea anyone?

Well, this is real brewed from natural green tea leaf and pomegranate. No preservatives! This, I like.

If you can’t see what is written on the labels, not to worry, I have taken more detailed photos below.

Yes, this is a ready to drink Authentic Green Tea with Pomegranate Flavour – especially for people who are bored with just plain old green tea. I guess this appeals to the younger crowd. Smart marketing move. Oh, it writes to freshen your day with Zenya green tea with pomegranate, the absolute authentic green tea blended with real Pomegranate juice concentrate. Made with best quality tea leaves, gently hands-picked and bleneded with Zenya heritage recipe. And it is made from real tea leaves, Zenya may contains tea residues harmless to human health. If not opened, Zenya can be stored up to one year at room temperature. Cool, no?

No preservatives! Zenya is best served cold, no ice is needed. And you do need to shake well before drinking. The ingredients are Green tea (80%), water, sugar, Pomegranate Concentrate, Malic Acid, Sodium Citrate, Flavouring and Carmoisine. Why the need to add flavouring as this is supposed to be naturally brewed?

Ahh…made in Thailand. It seems that a lot of our foodstuff are now made in Thailand. The net weight of this drink is 500ml.

The top of the Zenya bottle. Open this and you can drink the red coloured Zenya Green Tea with Pomegranate. I actually like this drink. I would prefer it not to be that sweet (this is a tea), but overall the flavour is quite nice. Yes, you do get a little Pomegranate flavour, but it is not overwhelming.

So, the school holidays are here. School children every where are glad that the schools over and they are finally able to have some fun. You know, nowadays schools can be very stressful for kids. It is not like in the past where school is just a place for learning maths, science and language and then you return home. It is now a place for learning everything. And our brilliant expert “educationists” have recommended that our school system have more “project work” which teaches “team work” and “responsibility” , improves “creativity” and allows students to think “independently”. Basically it means that our young school children is pumped with tons of stuff to do in order for the Education Ministry to look “good”. Oh, they are telling us to help them give our children the education they deserved. I find it very sad that our children are forced by our authorities to have such a stressful time in school and even at home, when they should be enjoying life. For god’s sake, they are children, not adults and they do deserve to have some fun once in a while.

I have seen parents piling their children with schoolbooks, textbooks and what-not every day. Even during the school holidays. That frightens me. I wonder how will their children turn out? My thought is that when adults are miserable, they tend to want to inflict their misery on others. What easier victim than their own children? If you think that it is not true, you will be surprised. We are supposed to love our children, but the truth is, some of the parents do not have the best interest of their children at heart. I have seen parents complaining to schools about the lack of “homework assignments” and “projects” and I was stunned. They have already a lot of homework assignments to do! Every day, you see school children heaving a huge bag of textbooks to school and they are telling me that there is not enough homework assignments??? What gives? I know it is not in the Singaporean parents’ nature to be understanding, but it doesn’t take much of an brain to realize that there is always a limit to what can be squeezed. And if you keep on squeezing, one day your child might just break and as the parent, you will have to be responsible for the consequences. But of course, most Singaporean parents will blame someone or something else.

Oh, if this is not scaring you the slightest, then I have a listing of Singapore Tuition Centres for you to enjoy browsing through.

Ya, I know, I have reviewed the Welch’s 100% Grape Juice before. And yes, it taste exactly the same as this can. But I guess this garners another look because it is just so different from the original bottled Welch’s. And yes, drinking grape juice is good for you. Not as good as eating grapes themselves, but sometimes we have to sacrifice something for convenience right? You will be surprised to see that a lot of nutrients and vitamins are in fact in the skin and the pulp of the grapes. But anyway, drinking filtered grape juice still have some of it’s benefits intact, so I would highly recommend everyone to drink grape juice. Of course, if you have the time, it would be better to eat grapes.

I am guessing that they designed this can specifically for the ladies. Most importantly, it is small and convenient to carry around in their handbag. Something which the ladies would appreciate. For me, I would rather have the big bottles and drink as much as I want per go. That small can is just not enough.

Yup, the Welch’s 100% Grape Juice in a can. You most probably cannot see with this picture, but it is very small.

Made from Concentrate with Vitamin C. I think what they are saying is that the drink is made from concentrate and there is vitamin C added. Most likely the process of making it into concentrate in the first place destroyed most of the vitamins present and they have to add some Vitamin C back to the drink. Sad, if you think about it.

Grape Polyphenol antioxidants! Good for fighting off those free radicals harming your body. We should consume more antioxidants to prevent cancer.

Alright! High in Vitamin C and no sugar added. I like! Oh, as I mentioned before, this can is small – it contains only 163ml of grape juice. Hardly enough to quech my thirst.

Cool, the ingredients are Grape Juice from concentrate(filtered water mixed with Grape Juice concentrate), grape juice, ascorbic acid (Vitamin C).That’s it! Yes, generally a short ingredient lists means that the product is better than those with long ingredients list, as those comes with a lot of other processed stuff. Bad! Be glad that Welch’s 100% Grape Juice has no artificial flavour or colour.

The nutrition table for this can of Welch’s 100% Grape Juice. Nothing important here.

Nice, made in the USA! Nowadays most of the stuff we see on the supermarkets are made in either China, Australia, Malaysia or somewhere, seldom do you see those made in the USA.  Most likely if you do, it would cost a bomb.

Yoplait Light Key Lime Pie

Ahhh…..yet another of those wonderful yogurt reviews. As you guys should know by now, I love yogurt. I love yogurt so much that I normally would consume about 300-400g of yogurt every day. I am guessing that this is more than what the usual Singaporean would normally consume per week. However, regularly consuming yogurt is good. Yogurt has good bacteria (probiotics) which can help improve or maintain your digestive system. A healthy colon means better immunity against diseases. However, the probiotics in regular yogurt is not strong enough to colonize your colon, so you will need to replenish the probiotics regularly for it to be effective. I would recommend eating a 250g cup of yogurt every day. Or just drink Kefir – the probiotic powerhouse!

As with most of my purchases, I bought this on offer. About S$2.85 or so from Cold Storage. You won’t find this brand in other supermarkets in Singapore. Remember, this Yoplait brand is from the United States, not the Australian one which is more commonly available.

Sorry about the darken picture. I took this photo in the evening, so lack of light. Key Lime Pie!

Yoplait Light Fat Free – Key Lime Pie Flavoured.

Wow, no fat yogurt - with aspartame & other sweetener. Vitamins A & D added. 1/3 fewer calories than regular lowfat yogurts. Now, that is something to be worried about – those artificial sweeteners. Anyone looking for a healthy snack might believe that this yogurt is good for them, but this is further from the truth. Those artificial sweeteners might make such a health snack by yogurt into someone extremely unhealthy. I would not recommend any forms of artificial sweeteners to anyone. Oh, this comes with Live & Active Cultures. You should always buy yogurt that comes with live and active cultures. Without these live cultures, you are losing a lot of health benefits from consuming yogurt.

Cool – 20% daily value of calcium and vitamin D. I think a lot of Singaporeans do not consume enough calcium in their daily diet, so yogurt is a good way to supplement your daily diet with calcium. This cup contains about 170g of yogurt.

Here we have the ingredients list -cultured pasteurised grade A nonfat milk, high fructose corn syrup, modified corn starch, nonfat milk, kosher gelatin, lime juice concentrate, critic acid, tricalcium phosphate, aspartame, potassium sorbate, natural colour, yellow #5, vitamin A acetate, blue #1 and Vitamin D3. And they mention that this is high in calcium with active live cultures including l.acidophilus.

Check it out – no fat! You are consuming a supposedly dairy product which has no fat!

Ya, it meets the national yogurt association criteria for live and active yogurt cultures. This means that they guarantee that there are a certain amount of live yogurt cultures present in the yogurt at time of consumption.

The top of the Yoplait Light Key Lime Pie flavoured yogurt! Yes, imported by Cold Storage Singapore. “It is so good”!

Well, this is the end of the review.  If you are interested in eating some unique flavoured yogurt, you should check out Cold Storage. They do have a number of exotic varieties which you can choose from.
