Bavaria Apple Malt

No, this is not alcohol! I know that it does look like some sort of beer from Holland but it isn’t.  It is actually an apple soda. I am sure that you guys know that beer is made from malt and fermented to produce alcohol. Usually they add hops to balance out the sweetness of the malt with some bitterness. However, just think for a moment that instead of allowing this “malt” to ferment, this mixture is instead packaged into a drink for people who don’t drink alcohol. What you have here is a sweetened drink (because of the barley malt and nutritious too!) just like a soda drink. Add a little apple juice into the mix and you get yourself an apple malt drink! Interesting isn’t it? Of course, it is not good for the government since they can’t get any tax from the alcohol. But it is good for people like me who would like a refreshing drink which does not make me all tipsy.

Price wise is it about the same as a soda drink. A little more expensive perhaps – all the way from Holland! And the taste is excellent! Not too sweet (even with the sugar and the barley malt) and the apple flavour is quite unique. Unlike most apple drinks which is kind of sour, you won’t find this kind of sourness here. And the barley malt is supposed to be very nutritious. Yes, just like Milo and Ovaltine for kids, we know that barley malt is jammed packed with numerous vitamins, nutrients and minerals.

Okay, we have the Bavaria Apple Malt drink. One would think that with a name like Bavaria, this would come from Germany but we are wrong, it is from Holland.

Yes, 0% ALC! So not to worry, you won’t get drunk.

Yes, brewed in Holland. Don’t you just love the dutch and their windmills? Check out the green/red apple they have at the right corner.

See, non-alcoholic apple flavoured malt beverage. The ingredients are water, barley malt, maltose, hops, natural apple flavour, sugar and citric acid. I wonder what is the hops in there for? I never tasted any hop flavour in the drink anyways, so I guess they add only a little hops into the drink.  And too bad, they add sugar into the drink.

Again, this is to show you that there is no alcohol in the drink. So go ahead and buy for your kids. It is definitely better than the other soda beverages you see in our stores. Don’t worry about the beer-like labels on the can.

Lo and behold, imported by Victoria 88 Distributions Pte Ltd. I wonder how this Karen from Victoria 88 looks like?
