Hershey’s Dark Chocolate
1006 days agoYa, a dark chocolate review. I am sure that this would be more appealing to you guys. All those reviews on fresh milk, UHT milk and what-not gets so damn boring after a while. Most of you guys would have fallen asleep when you read those blog post and I apologize. But I find it kind of interesting myself. But that is just me. And of course, my interest in makign yogurt and Kefir. The milk that goes into making those foodstuff requires good quality milk in order for the yogurt or the Kefir to come on delicious.
Anyway, enough of milk. It is time to review this Hershey’s Dark Chocolate. Yes, this is dark chocolate. The healthier version of chocolate. If you get rid of some of the milk, you will get dark chocolate. But the taste is very bitter and I am sure that none of us would be able to swallow pure dark chocolate without collapsing from all those bitterness. So, the dark chocolate we find in the supermarkets meant for the general public usually come with a percentage of milk in them. You can check out the amount of cacao in the chocolate from the labels – the more (flavanol antioxidants) the better it is for you. But it is an acquired taste, so you should try chocolate with a lower cacao content first before going for those “extra dark chocolates”. Consumer dark chocolate are supposed to be bitter sweet and feels less creamy than milk chocolate and a whole lot more aromatic. For me, I like those 60% cacao dark chocolate. But they can be rather expensive and hard to find.
I bought this Hershey’s Dark Chocolate from NTUC for about S$1.50. Considering the raising prices of everything, I find this quite reasonable. Hey, it is Hershey’s leh!

Hershey’s Dark Chocolate. Hershey’s is the most popular brand of chocolate in the world, especially in America. In Singapore, it is not that popular but anyone who has watched American shows or movies would have heard of Hershey’s. Yes, they make the chocolate sauce as well.

Hoooooo! Natural source of Flavanol Antioxidants. These stuff are good for fighting off free radicals and may provide cardiovascular benefits. The more cacao content in the chocolate, the more of such Flavanol Antioxidants are in the chocolate. So look for one that has the most cacao content for the most benefits. This Hershey’s Dark Chocolate has about 45% cacao only. But beware, chocolate with a lot of Cacao content can be overwhelming in taste and very bitter, so you should not go beyond something like 60% to 70%.

The back of the chocolate bar. Nothing much here.

Ahh…..we come to the ingredients list – Chocolate (100%) , [Sugar, Cocoa Mass, Cocoa Butter, Cocoa processed with Alkali, milk fat, lactose (milk), emulsifiers (Soya Lecithin) , E322 and Polyglycerol Polyricinoleate, E476] Vanillin, Artificial flavour and milk. And this is made in the USA! Cool. 41g of heavenly dark chocolate all the way from the US for us to enjoy. I love Hershey’s.

I repeat, this is manufactured in the USA by The Hershey Company!

Ya, seems a bit old. But at least it is still before the expiry date.

Lo and behold, the Hershey’s Dark Chocolate bar! 12 chocolate pieces for you to enjoy. I normally consume them without breaking them into pieces. You know lah, I am very greedy and I love dark chocolate. I finished this entire bar in one sitting.

A more detailed picture of the Hershey’s Dark Chocolate. Don’t you find them super tempting? Mouth watering and aromatic chocolate! I just wish that I had purchased more.
