Greenfields Pasteurised Fresh Milk

Ahhh….we have finally came to this point and review the infamous Greenfields Pasteurised Fresh Milk. Why is this “infamous”? Well, I am sure a number of you guys would know, especially if you read the labels of the stuff you buy. And if you don’t, well, I will come to this later. This milk is pasteurised, not ultra-heat treated, so it needs refrigeration in order for it to stay fresh, which is fine by me. The problem I would think would be the transportation time for someone to bring the fresh milk back home. How long will it take to get the milk to your home fridge? A lot of consumers never realize this, but a lot of fresh foods, especially milk, need to be constantly kept under a certain temperature in order for it to stay fresh. If you take a hour or more to get home from your shopping, you should consider purchasing these kind of foodstuff nearby instead of from further away places. Remember, the expiry date on that carton is only valid if you keep the milk at a certain temperature. So when you reach home, immediately refrigerate your milk!

Anyway I bought two cartons of this Greenfields Pasteurised Fresh Milk from Shop N Save. They were having a offer – 2 for S$5.05. Still a bit more expensive than UHT milk but I guess if you want fresh stuff in Singapore, you will have to pay more. But considering the high prices of fresh milk in Singapore, Greenfields is still quite reasonable.

The receipt for the two packs of milk.

Ahhh….the 1 litre Greenfields Pasteurised Fresh Milk in all its glory!

Check out the cow! Looks kind of out of place from it’s surroundings leh. Their graphics design department didn’t do well in this regards. Must hire some professional designers to re-design their packaging. Oh, the milk is not from Australia, just in case the “Australia” words on the label is confusing to you. More on this later.

This milk contains Vitamin B2, Calcium and Phosphorous and is HACCP certified.

The nutrition facts of the milk.

The ingredients of this carton is well, just pasteurised fresh milk.  Yaaa! Too bad, they don’t fortify it with any vitamins or minerals. But I like my milk all-natural without any additional vitamins or minerals. Makes me a bit uncomfortable to see when milk is being “fortified” with stuff. I am alright with just plain old fresh milk.

Anyway, check out this label. This is a product of Indonesia. The cows (they are in Indonesia) are imported from Australia. So, they can put this claim that the milk is from Australian cows but in fact, the cows are in Indonesia! Don’t you love marketing guys? They really know how to “smoke” consumers, don’t they? Greenfields pasteurised fresh milk gives you the superior taste and nutrition of fresh milk from dairy cows imported from Australia! Wuhahahahaha! I like. Now you know why it is infamous.

Imported by Japfa Food Distributors Pte Ltd. I have a mind to write in and complain about the labeling. But technically what they say on the label is true, the cows are indeed Australian cows, just that they are in Indonesia. Evil.

Look to the right of the picture. Eeeeeek!  No, I didn’t manipulate or photoshop anything.

Anyway, this milk has no preservatives added. If it did, I will give the manufacturers a piece of my mind. No fresh milk or even UHT milk should ever contain any preservatives at all. It is supposed to be a healthy drink, please don’t destroy it by adding preservatives.

Too bad about the expiry date. Merely 1 and a half weeks of shelf life. It is no wonder it is more expensive than UHT Milk. You can literally keep UHT milk on the shelf for years without the milk going bad, not so for fresh milk. Well, life is a trade-off. You get fresh milk (and more vitamins and nutrients) but you will need to consume them fast.
