Isn’t it so very cool? Even tuna comes in mineral water nowadays. Apparently plain tap water isn’t good enough for some of us, so they have to use the more expensive mineral water as substitute. We must really be too spolit for choice to be needing mineral water instead of just plain water. However, I think in this case, the mineral water is used to replace oil or brine which is usually used to soak the tuna in such cans. Quite a number of consumers eat tuna because they believe that it is healthy for them, so adding oil or salt (brine) is not a recommended option for health seeking consumers. So, the next best thing is just water. Mineral water makes it sound better than just plain water. In my opinion, it is all about marketing.

The Ayam Brand Tuna chunks in mineral water. Note that this is Tuna Light which means that it has low fat content compared to the other brands.  If you are looking for healthy stuff, look for this “Light” wording on the cans.

Very little saturated fat and no trans-fat! And low sodium content as well! Very good. However, the Omega-3 fatty acids seemed to be much less than the other canned tuna I have tried. Could it be due to the mineral water which dissolves the Omega-3 fatty acids in the tuna? If you compared this mineral water tuna with the one in olive oil, the amount of Omega-3 fatty acids is halved in the mineral water tuna! How did that happen?

The ingredients in this can is just Tuna and mineral water. The net weight of the can is 185g, full of tuna goodness! I like it.

Yes, the tuna is farmed with Dolphin friendly methods. Good, I always like dolphins and I would hate to see the dolphins harmed in any way when they are doing their farming. I would highly recommend consumers to check whether their suppliers of tuna is farming fish using dolphin friendly methods.
