Vitagen Less Sugar Probiotic Drink
1151 days agoAhh…got myself yet another probiotic stuff. This time, it is the Vitagen probiotic drink. Yes, most of you guys would know that Vitagen is just a copy of Yakult, the very popular cultured milk drink. Well, I have to tell you guys that although they probably look the same, they are not really. It is like saying that a yogurt manufacturer is copying another yogurt manufacturer. Yes, they are all cultured milk drinks but they are using different “good bacteria” to culture their milk. For Yakult, they use some sort of l.casei strain which I can’t pronounce. For Vitagen, they are using some bacteria strain from Denmark. However, in my opinion, they are also very different in taste. And yes, Vitagen does taste less sweet. That is one thing I like about Vitagen.
I would highly recommend everyone to drink a bottle of either Yakult or Vitagen per day. It does contains probiotics which I am sure you guys should know by now, it helps to maintain a healthy gut flora. A healthy gut flora in turn makes our digestive system work better and also suppresses the growth of bad bacteria. All in all, it is a very important thing for everyone. And it is also convenient. Just grab a bottle from your fridge and drink up on the way to work. One bottle contains about 125ml of probiotic drink which would at most take about 2 minutes for most people. Of course, you can always take yogurt or Kefir, but for most busy people, it might be less attractive than drinking from a bottle of Yakult or Vitagen.

Okay, here we have is the 5 packs of LB flavour. I am not sure what LB is, but I am guessing that it is the original flavour.

Yes, fat free, high fiber and the live probiotics is from Denmark. Check out on the right, it comes with both probiotics and prebiotics. The prebiotics is the high fibre which helps support the growth of good bacteria in your gut. Think of it as food and supplement for the good bacteria. There are a lot of discussions on the benefits of prebiotics since it might also help support the growth of bad bacteria in your gut as well. But if you have a healthy gut, you shouldn’t worry about the prebiotics.
Oh, Vitagen seems to be harping on the “Less Sugar” thingy. For me, I don’t really care about the sugar content in the cultured milk drink, just as long as it is not excessive. And if it was too excessive, I am sure that nobody would want to drink it anyway. If you are watching your weight however, I am Vitagen would be a better alternative than Yakult.

That’s right, Vitagen Less Sugar cultured milk drink is specially formulated for consumers who are health conscious and are concerned about their sugar intake. Compared to regular cultured milk drinks, they have at leats 50% more sugar than Vitagen Less Sugar. Thank the gods!
And every bottle has billions of live probiotic cultures (good bacteria) to maintain a healthy digestive system. It is also high in dietary fibre (prebiotic fibre) tto aid digestion and help support the growth of good bacteria in the intestines. Well, for me, I am more interested in the probiotics and what it can do for my health. The prebiotics is not that important. And seriously, if you have a healthy gut, you don’t need to worry about having prebiotics to support the growth of good bacteria anyway.

The ingredients are as follows: Dietary fiber (Inuin & polydextrose), fructose, sucrose, milk solids, glucose, permitted stabilisers, permitted flavourings and lactobacillus cultures (probiotics). Basically it is like most cultured milk products. They difference would be just the amount of sugar, other flavourings and the type of bacteria used. And yes, it is made in Singapore! Cool! I am always keen to support made in Singapore products.
Do note that this Vitagen bottle is slightly bigger than the Yakult one. 125ml compared to Yakult’s 80ml. Of course, most people will choose Yakult, seeing that it is from Japan. But from what I can see, it seems that Vitagen does provide more benefits to the host than Yakult does. However, I really hope that Vitagen is not putting ingredients into their cultured milk drink just for the sake of looking good. It must provide real health benefits to their consumers as well.

That’s the bottle of Vitagen.

Ahhh….the Healthier Probiotics Drink. I like it. Not so sweet and doesn’t leave any stickiness in your mouth. I purchased the LB flavour pack. I think I will try the other fruit flavours some other time.

Well, this is the same ingredient list as mentioned above.
This is the end of my little review. I am not taking any sides on which is better – Yakult or Vitagen. Everyone has their own opinions on this, so it is better left to the individual. Some people like Vitagen because it is less sweet, some like Vitagen because it contains more goodness, while others like Yakult because it is from Japan or that it taste better. Well, if you like any of them, it is fine by me. Just remember that drink one bottle per day to help maintain a healthy digestive system!

Hi there! where are you from? glad to see you’ve tasted yakult and vitagen.
i prefer yakult.. they just taste better, and i think they’re the original ones.
Have you seen those gigantic yakults they have in hong kong or taiwan?? i mean they’re HUGE. hehe
ever since being constipated i’ve tried drinking this regularly every day and it’s work out nice. I also drink kefir made from kefir grains, not the lifeway stuff, so maybe this helps too.
lastly, i wonder who came up with that bottle shape… hehe why do they all have to look the same??? :O
How big are they??
