Don’t you just hate cyclists? I mean you are trying to get from one destination to another, you have to go through a bunch of cyclists riding like they own the roads. And it’s a danger. Just imagine walking with your kid and some cyclists who don’t give a damn about anything comes riding by fast. I am not talking about those old folks riding bicycles slowly and carefully, I am talking about what you see on the roads and pedestrians walkways these days. These group of people are not riding carefully or even defensively. They are riding recklessly without a care about others. And with a bicycle, it can be very very dangerous to other pedestrians. Getting knocked down by a bicycle is no small matter.
I work in an industrial estate and I discovered that the situation is getting worse by the day. I know that in other countries it is the norm to ride bicycles to work. But in Singapore, the roads and the pathways are just not meant for bicycles. Every morning, we will see huge crowd of cyclists riding on the roads, either slowing the traffic for buses and cars or riding on the pedestrians pathways. If you are walking on the pathway, you will bound to come across these cyclists and they are at best a nuisance to other pedestrians. At worst, they are a danger. Unless you drive, all you have to do is to take a walk on the pathways and you will know what I mean. There are even cyclists who must ride together in a group, blocking the rest of the roads and pathways for others!
Sadly, the LTA don’t seem to be interested in stopping these reckless cyclists on our roads. I think it has gotten out of hand in Singapore. Singapore is just too small to have such a big group of cyclists roaming in the streets. We just don’t have the space, unlike other bigger countries. It is about time the government start to put a stop to this nonsense.
