Thanks for that info, useful stuff. I get so bored of plain rice recipes but i'm not exactly very skilled at cooking. There's loads of good ideas at this rice recipe site I found that you might be interested in too.

That's very interesting. It seems that Chinese Malaysians love rice wine a lot.

Glutinous rice wines are popular in peninsular and east Malaysia. It has a natural fragrant sweetness that is just so different from China's glutinous Zhou Xing wine of various grades. The ones from Sabah and Sarawak states are called Tapai and Tuak respectively, and the local Chinese simply called it red rice wine due to the rich orangy tone of the final brew still carrying the now well known nutraceutical yeast red rice yeast.

Cold Storage Singapore used to carry a Malaysia made red rice wine (from Johor) called Fuchou wine, but no longer carries it. I cooked east malaysian style wine chicken with it, just adding ginger, garlic and sometimes dong kwai and ginseng. very nourishing stuff. My Aussie hubby loves it. When I go to KL next I will buy some.
