Well, it’s the second day of the new year (yes, it’s 2008 finally) and I suddenly realize that it is one of the most stressful day for some. It’s the time for school! Yes, thousands of children and parents will be flocking to the schools of their choice (or not). For people who don’t have any kids or children, you won’t notice it but for those with school going kids, they will know. It’s like hell. Why? Well, because a lot of parents have to bring their primary one kids to school and this being a new school (for some), they really need to get used to it. Wake up, bring their kids to school and then rush to work. And parents will often worry about their kids and whether their kids can cope with the new school environment. I guess it is only natural for parents to worry about their young ones. It’s just as stressful as the day when their kids get the exam results.

And for the young kids, especially those going to kindergarten or Primary one, it’s also a very stressful time. I often see kids crying on their first few days. Many refuse to enter the school grounds. One day you are at home, the next day, you are thrown into a completely new environment. This can really be heart-wrenching for parents to be separated from their kids. I can only guess how tough it is for a lot of the children to get used to the school and new friends/classmates. However, from what I know, children are actually very adaptable and in probably a few weeks, they will be eager to go to school and be with their friends. If only Singapore schools were more interesting and fun. During my time, school was nothing but boring. I mean, the lessons were dull and the teachers were uninspired. I had to drag myself to school every morning but it was my friends there which made life bearable.

Anyways, Happy New Year and don’t cry. School can really be fun!
