Glarysoft Registry Repair

December 30, 2007

This is yet another one of those registry cleaner software. As you guys know, the Windows operating system is full of crap, and what makes it even worse is crap in it’s registry. What’s a Windows Registry? It’s like a list of information about your software, link libraries and whole lot of stuff to run your Windows. However, it is also very prone to getting corrupted or getting invalid or obsolete links. Like when you install and then uninstall some software, registry entries are still left behind by the installer. All these registry entries take up resources because the registry is loaded up everytime your Windows start up. Just think, if you have been using your Windows Operating System for years, how much crap has it accumulated already.

What you need is a Registry Cleaner. So, I introduce to you Glarysoft Registry Repair. As usual, this software is free and you can download it from their website. It claims to be the safest registry cleaner out there. Anyway, I am using it and there doesn’t seem to be any problems with using it. And the interface is easy to use. Just click on Scan Registry for problems and after it finish scanning, click on repair. And if you have problems with your Operating System after that, you can always restore your configurations back.

It helps you clean up your registry by searching and removing invalid paths, invalid file types, invalid file associations, dead file associations, adwares and spywares in the registry, invalid fonts, invalid shared programs, invalid startup programs among others. So why not give it a try. Just remember, you can always restore back your old configuration if you face any problem. And it works for Windows Vista as well!

FileSwap - Just Weird

December 29, 2007

Have you heard before FileSwap? You may think that it is like those Peer-to-Peer service in which you swap files among your friends or among others, well……hmmm….it is like that! But the thing is unlike other services, you get a random file instead. So if you upload a file let’s say an mp3 file of your own, you may get back a jpeg picture of a dog sleeping on the couch. There is no telling what kind of files you will receive. Yes, that’s right, it’s just a weird little service. So you can swap text files, music files, pictures and pdf files. Not executable files like those programs. I am sure this is to prevent viruses and spyware/adware from being shared through this service, which is a good thing. I really hate those stuff.

It is like the Russian Roulette. You will never know what you will get. I think it is meant to be interesting. And I must say, it is quite interesting to get a file and not know what it is beforehand. Kind of like a Christmas gift exchange thing we had back at the office. Everyone is so excited trying to figure out what and who bought gifts for them. But this time you do it with complete strangers on the Internet. Oh, isn’t this just so damn fun? Of course, if you have the time and if you have a lot of files, you can spend the entire day doing file swaps with strangers.

It is just too bad that they have a size limit of 500kb. That’s very small, considering that nowadays those “standalone” files can get up to 2-3MB in size. And they have limited support for file types. So a lot of files cannot be swapped like powerpoint presentation files, flash files, movie files and so on. Hopefully they can improve on this and maybe in the future we will be able to swap even more files with strangers, like that nice guy from Afghanistan who gave me a dirty bomb recipe. Thanks!

Last Days Of 2007

December 28, 2007

Looks like we are reaching the end of 2007. These few days are the last days of the year 2007 and how has it been for all of you? Has it been a good year? What have you accomplished during the year? And what are your hopes for the upcoming year, that’s 2008 for those who don’t know. I am sure a lot of us are eagerly awaiting the new year right? Perhaps we are hoping for better things to come?

Anyway, for me, it has been a rather rough year. Full of ups and downs. I started this blog just around March this year and it started out poorly. Mainly because I don’t have much experience in blogging and all my blog posts are one-liners and crap. I also failed to promote my blog to the masses. Worse, my writing style is crap and uninteresting. But after a while, I sort of got used to blogging and hopefully my blog posts are much better than before. And I promoted this site much more than before. I posted (or some say spammed) my blog posts in popular webmaster forums and blogs. The number of visitors to this site has increased from around 5-10 per day from March to around 40-70 visitors now. Sure, the traffic during the the holiday season is down but I think it will go right back up during the new year.

Oh, my company which I have worked for more than 5 years has shut down completely. That’s pretty sad. Some director stole several millions and ran away (very likely to China) and left us all in the ditch. Well, we faced interviews and audits from the CAD (Commercial Affairs Department) and some auditing company which has not idea what is happening. I guess a lot of innocent staff got into trouble because they were told by the director to do “certain things”. It is ironic, from what I have heard, the director (and possibly others in the higher management) got away with the money and here we are being treated like criminals and what not. That’s what is called Justice here in Singapore. And the weird thing is that this director who had stolen the money, had done it for years now. This meant that for years, the auditors who audited my company’s finances is either incompetent, sleeping or they are in cahoots with the director. Either way, they are responsible as well. But they got away scott-free without any investigation or even a fine. I am sadden by this fact that the rich and powerful can buy anything, even in supposedly “corruption-free” Singapore.

Anyway, I moved on and started working in another company. But with this experience, I realized that Singapore is not any different from the rest of the world. I am sure a lot of people think that Singapore is clean and we don’t have the kind or level of corruption we see elsewhere. But they are wrong, dead wrong. The rich and the powerful in Singapore are just as greedy, self-centered and corrupt as those in other countries. Just that these are not reported by the Singapore media and we don’t know much about them. Probably a conspiracy of silence? All we have in our local media are reports of two neighbours arguing or fighting or somewhere, somehow, someone in some other countries got robbed or killed.

Okay, I think I will spend the last few days of 2007 brooding and getting angry with life. Life is short, might as well as get angry and pissed off all we want right? How about you guys, any nice experience to share?

It looks like it’s going to be a sad day for the people of Pakistan. Everywhere they go, they see violence. Everywhere they turn, they see death. Even when they see some sort of democracy coming back to their country, their hopes seemed shattered. For me, I am not sure whether it is done by Islamic Terrorists or whether it is done by the military government. Or it could even by done by someone else who feels that Bhutto will be a threat to their power. Although it was a gun and bomb assassination, then assassin himself was killed, so it is sort of like a suicide bomber, hallmarks of those Islamic terrorists. However, let’s not be so fast in saying who did it. I am sure there are a lot of other groups who wanted her out of the way. But whoever it is, things really don’t look good for the country.

I hope Pakistan will not go up in flames because of this. Note that Pakistan has a nuclear arsenal and if these weapons of mass destruction falls into the wrong hands, the world will be in serious trouble. I hope to see the Military rulers of Pakistan take some responsiblity and control the situation, but still allow the elections to go ahead. I and I am sure a lot of people would like to see a transition from a military government to a civilian government, elected by the people. And this was actually promised by the Military rulers. And only real leaders keep their promises. If the Military leaders would like to show the world and Pakistanis that they are respectable leaders, they should allow the election to continue.

I would also hope that there will be no more violence in Pakistan. There were riots and fights between police and protestors already, but I guess this is a kneejerk reaction to the assassination. I am sure a lot of people are angry and disappointed with what has happened. But if everybody remains claim and let the elections continue, I think it could work out alright for the country. Let’s all key our fingers cross. For the sake of the people of Pakistan and the world.

Spam Attack On Christmas Day

December 25, 2007

Oh no, I was spammed by tons of spam on Christmas Day! I got a lot of submissions by the same person(s) for the same website(s) on my directories. Yes, not just one of my directory and two of them. The spammer(s) are now targetting directories which link to each other, which is kind of weird since that would not be very effective at all. I mean, if you are spammed in one directory, I am sure that you won’t approve the same site(s) in another directory right? Probably spammers are lazy as well. Not a smart move in my opinion. Probably should attack different directories with different website submissions instead of the same one. More likely to get approved than what they have just done.

And it seems that spammers don’t need to take holidays or have a break. Guess in Romania or Russia or Eastern European countries, they celebrate Christmas in other ways? Perhaps they get together and figure out which sites to spam and then celebrate later by drinking a lot of vodka? Not too sure, but hey, how about giving me a break? How about thinking of others instead of yourself this holiday season eh? Oh wait, they don’t care and most of them don’t understand English anyway, so I am just wasting time and effort.

I will await the New Year spam attack then. That’s another few hours of my life wasted. I could be getting drunk and vomitting my gunts out in some party somewhere you know. Instead I am stuck at home trying to clear my directory submission of spam and other sort of crap. I hate you.

Merry Christmas Everybody

December 24, 2007

Hooray, it’s Christmas time again! Oh, yes, only for those living in Australia, but for the rest of the world, you guys still have several hours to wait before it is Christmas. Anyways, it should be time for that Christmas Eve Party, hope you guys enjoy yourself a lot and hope that it will be a memorial one. And don’t forget, if you drink, don’t drive. Or at least leave your vehicle at the office and get someone to drive you home instead.

Oh, and remember, presents isn’t everything. Let’s not be tricked by consumerism and by advertisements. In fact, Christmas is not really about giving and receiving presents. Well, it’s more about sharing and joy. So, give out a lot of joy guys!

This post will be short and sweet. I doubt any of you have any mood to read a long post so I will end here. Again, I would like to wish everybody a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It’s looks like it’s going to get warm again right here in Singapore. After weeks of rain and more rain, Singapore is actually getting warmer. The weather the last few days is all sunny and even with forecast of slight rain (in fact they say thunder and showers today), I never see a single drop of it. I just love forecasts don’t you? And they even claimed that they are seldom wrong in their weather forecast. Wuhahaha, ego and more ego. The meteorological service of Singapore is another great example of why our government is so damn competent that they need even higher paychecks and bonuses. Oh, they did get in right on Saturday, it did rain heavily for a while. For that, I am glad that my tax dollars is actually working and providing me some benefit.

Usually December is the rainy season in Singapore, perhaps that’s how they “predict” the weather - by taking historical data and compiling it and getting the result. Whatever it is, I am sure the following weeks will also be sunny and warm. Not really good for someone like me who hate the heat. But I hate the rain too. You mean, you get wet and cold and stuff. But warm weather is great for gobbling down ice cold smoothies or ice cream. Cold weather is great for sleeping, if I have don’t have to work that is. But you know, if I don’t work, I don’t eat. So, cold weather or not, I still need to work.

Ok, back to the warm weather thing, I think that Singaporeans should be prepared for the warm spell. I have seen a lot of people carrying umbrellas and raincoats along, which was alright the last few weeks. But now, I really doubt that it will rain that often and mainly passing showers. So keep your umbrellas at home and enjoy the fine (but hot) weather. And the holidays are coming. This Tuesday, it’s Christmas, next Tuesday, it’s the New Year. And in February, we will have Chinese New Year! Yup, two days of holidays and a much needed break from all the stress of Singapore.

Take a look here. This is one huge monster of a plane, right? It’s a double decker plane, which means that it’s just like a double decker bus with two floors of seats. The first flight route will be from London to Singapore to Sydney. And it looks good, especially if you have the money to board one. Even the economy class comes with bigger leg room (very important!), large LCD monitor (TV) and it is supposed to be ergonomically designed, which simply means that it is more comfortable. Yes, it should be. I always hate taking budget airlines. These are really crappy planes with no service to speak of. Not to mention, we get delays and delays without any explanation or compensation. Everyday in the forums, you will see people complaining about budget airlines. However, I always believe that what you pay is what you get. Don’t expect good service from budget airlines. Some flights cost like S$70 per trip and a taxi trip can cost up to S$40 per trip right here in Singapore. So guys prepared for the worst when you travel budget airlines. I still think SIA is one of the best airline service in the world, even though they are pretty expensive and the management are probably rich, greedy corporate types.

Is it also interesting to note that the prices for economy class should not be too expensive compared to SIA’s other plane tickets, which is good news for people like me. I guess it is because they still need their planes to be full in order to make profit. Understandable. However, the prices for business or “suite” class is another thing. Be prepared to pay a lot, and I mean a lot. Looks like they have cabins, beds and other shit for passengers who are loaded. I wonder whether I will have the means or the opportunity to take one of these planes in this lifetime? And I never took first class (business class as well) before in my life.

Take a look at SIA’s offical website on the A380!

This is an interesting little plugin, it’s called Lyrics Plugin. I guess they spent several months thinking of what to call their software and suddenly, out of the blue, they thought of a great one! Anyways, this plugin is for the media players WinAmp and Microsoft Media Player, two of the more popular media players out there. And what does it do? Well, it displays lyrics, stupid. So all you have to do is to play the songs and the lyrics will be automatically displayed on your software. And if it can’t find the lyrics, you can add them yourselves. And the file size is very small. Good, I like files which are small in size, they usually don’t take up a lot of resource. Oh, it’s free as well!

Well, there is not much I can say about this plugin. It’s pretty simple and very useful as well, especially if you are a fan of the music sense. Oh, I believe that a lot of popular songs should already be in their database so you shouldn’t worry. But you need Internet access to do that. I wonder is there a way to store the database locally so that when there is new song I play, I don’t need to connect to the Internet every time? Hope that in the future, they will allow us to download their music database.

If you guys have any software which you find interesting, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am always always always keen to check out new and interesting software.

So Now You Know

December 21, 2007

Have you guys ever wondered how the names of brands come about? I am sure a lot of them came from somewhere some how. Anyway, someone created a list of the popular brand names which I think you will find it interesting. You will know how did Intel, Sun, Yahoo!, Google, CISCO and Apple get their names from. Great for conversations at parties.

World’s greatest Brand name.Where does it come from?

Hmmm……did you know that the founder of Lotus used to be a teacher of Transcendental Meditation? Wow, just like me. But I think he is probably not as “transcended” as me. I am the most transcended one. In fact, I can float at will! However, I can only achieve that with tons of beer or some vodka.

And ORACLE stands for One Real Asshole Called Larry Ellison. Who is Larry Ellison? Well, the co-founder of ORACLE itself! Wuhahahaha. I like. Sometimes these corporate types will surprise you, they have a sense of humour which I thought they never had. Probably when they were much younger in the beginning, they are human. But now, I guess most of them are stuck-up suits without any sense of pity, compassion or even humanity.
