Got an interesting topic from Digitalpoint Forums today. Finally something useful from the forum. It’s about a case study on a website and how it grew from zero traffic to 400 visitors. It’s sort of like a step by step tutorial to do Search Engine Optimization (SEO) for a website which has wallpapers for downloads. You can check it out here. Yes, if your website is of a different subject, it is still a good read and it has all the important basics writen down. As you can see, the most important parts are still keywords and backlinks. Getting indexed by Search Engines should be the easy part, the next thing would be building links and content.
And the article take on social bookmarking sites is right on. It gives you a powerful backlink as well as traffic, if you get enough “votes” or “diggs” or whatever. Although it is often abused, it is still effective as an SEO tool.
Content is probably the only thing nobody can teach you how to optimize. But it is an integral part because without content, any SEO will not be effective at all. Even if you do get visitors, they will not stay long or visit again either. The trick is for them to actually remember or at least bookmark your site. So, add more useful content to your site. The problem is the term “useful” has different meaning to different people.
The thing I would like to point out is there are a lot of web stats programs or scripts out there. Don’t be afraid of using them. Awstats and Google analytics are good web stats scipts but there are many others with more features. And it is one of the most useful tool you will ever get when doing your SEO. It tells you where your visitors are coming from, which page they visit most often and what keywords or keyphrases are these visitors searching for. And you can use these information to further optimize your website. It’s surprising that a lot of webmasters don’t make use of such tools.
I think that there is a part two coming soon, so please visit that site again soon.
