Rumour Squashed – Google Will Keep PageRank
1641 days agoI mean of course Google will keep using PageRank. Google created PageRank and it has been an important part of their Search Engine algorithm for years. Sure, it’s weightage has been reduced greatly in recent times, but still it plays an significant part. We then get rumours here and there that Google is going to ditch PageRank. When I heard it, I was shocked that Google would do such thing. It’s like saying that they have been wrong all these time and their techniques and methods are all flawed from the start! But heck, those are all rumours! Google is not going to shoot itself in the mouth and destroy themselves (and a lot of people who are involved) in the process. Don’t forget, Google is a business entity.
This PageRank value is a very useful gauge of a website’s importance. As I said before, it is not the only criteria of how important a webpage is, but it is still useful. If Google takes out the PageRank, it’s competitors can easily cash in on it’s absence. Other measuring metrics like Alexa will then be significantly more important to webmasters and marketers. Why would Google help their competitors in this regard? Not to mention, using PageRank enables Google to market it’s usefulness to experts in the website industry. You know, something which people can relate much easier to, a number, a figure to judge something against. It just doesn’t make any sense to remove the PageRank.
PageRank depends solely on backlinks. So if a webpage has a lot of good quality backlinks pointing to it, then it should have a high PageRank. I see no problem with that, you just need to get a good number of high quality links pointing to your webpage if you want a high PageRank. They makes the Internet a more democratic place where webmasters and people on the Internet each have their say on whether a webpage is useful to them or not. And backlinks (from other sites) make that possible. Sure, it is prone to abuse, but it’s like democracy, not a prefect system but what other choice do we have?
I think the rumours of Google removing the PageRank was started in the Digitalpoint forums. I mean, which dumb rumour isn’t started at that place? It’s a hellhole which provides any sorts of nonsense that are meant to confuse and smoke their members. Or it could be just some SEO marketing hype gone wrong. Well, remember guys, don’t listen to rumours. Listen to me for my words are law and my thoughts are raw.
