Alright, we currently have 300 listings in the Authority Sites Directory. Well, it is something to celebrate. For me anyway. Never thought that I would have reached 300 listings and I would still continue on. I am quite proud of myself.

Now, we will look forward to quality 400 listings.  And 400 unique descriptions too.

Hope you enjoy reading it.

I hope I have covered the important parts . But please note that this is talking about a general web directory and doesn’t include niche or some specialized topics. What I mean is that if you are thinking about creating some niche directory, your priorities should be different from what I have written, but I think the general idea is still there.

I am not very sure any of you realize it or not, but there seem to be something wrong with the authority site status for Alive Directory. If you search for “alivedirectory.com”, you won’t see the status. However, if you search for “alive directory”, wham, there you go, the status is there.

Picture: Search for “alivedirectory.com”, you get:

Alive Directory

And search for “Alive Directory”, you get

Alive Directory

Isn’t it very weird?

Damn, I miss my April Fools joke. I wanted to write a blog saying that I had bought over Alive Directory, Aviva Directory, SevenSeek, Goguides, BOTW and the rest of them directories and creating a whole new directory empire that will even rival Yahoo and business.com. I will call it the Axis of Evil. But too bad, I slept through the entire April Fools day.

I will wait for May Fools day then.

Oh, by the way, Alexa Traffic graphs seem to be working again. You can see them in action in both my directories. I have also added link popularity mod to them. You can see the indexed pages and the backlinks by different search engines. Cool…..

I have done a little writeup on the setting up of a paid directory. I hope it will be useful if you are thinking of setting up your very own paid web directory. Sad to say, it’s not easy. Sure, you have read success stories on the Internet and directory script developers have claimed that it is rather easy to earn money from their scripts, but are all these true? I leave that up to you. I just need to give you a little hint, it requires a lot of hardwork and effort! Seriously, you won’t be successful if you think that a directory will do the work for you and all you have to do is to sit back and watch the money flow it.

You can read it here: Tips for setting up a paid directory. If you have anything to add, please comment here.

No? Okay.

Looks like even for small sites with just a small number of pages can also be given the “authority sites” status as well. Check out Arts Movement Directory. Google’s index has only 46 pages of that site! Makes me think that this status is independent of Search Results? It is possible? Again, it just makes me more confused.

Looks like Alexa (or Amazon) is blocking Alexa traffic graphs from being accessed by third parties. I believe it started with Statsaholic and they attempted to shutdown Statsaholic from using their graphs.  Too bad, both Authority Sites Directory and High PageRank Sites Alexa graphs are down too. Hope they resolve this issue soon or we may need to start changing something…..
