MJZ Hosting

April 25, 2007

Ok, this site is not an “authority site” but nevertheless, it is pretty interesting. Owned by Matthew, he is very famous in Webhostingtalk forums. And his business models are one weird thing after another. No, I am not kidding, the guy has probably gone off his meds but somehow still owns some web servers. He has a “volunteer based” support team and accepts donations to upgrade the servers. However, his hosting plans are pretty cheap and comes with “unlimited” features.

If you can stand all those smilies and old classic pictures as well as his tediously long comments and complains (which no one understands by the way), then you should sign up for his hosting plans. He even has free plans for those who “inspire” him. So I guess if you jump off some building in the bid to declare your love for George Bush, you will probably get free hosting from Matthew. But if you are looking for some decent and sane web hosting, please look elsewhere.

MJZ Hosting. By the way, my blog has no copyright too.

”MJZ Web Hosting may deny access to any sole person or organization to it’s website, servers or entire network at its discretion , with or without notice (but probably won’t unless you’re being a giant asshole).

I am here again to introduce to you guys another site. This time it is on DogPile. No, it is not shit or crap, but it is a meta Search Engine. What does this mean? Well, it means that the results from DogPile is actually from different Search Engines compiled and sorted by DogPile. Of course, they add some sponsored results (read: Advertisements) in it. They take results from Google, Yahoo, MSN and Ask, jingle it about and displays them to their users. Sponsored results has the wordings “Sponsored by lalalala” below the results. From what I have discovered, the results are quite relevant, but then I still goto Google for my regular searches.

If you would like to try, goto DogPile. Just becareful not to accidentially step on dog poo. And in Korea, the word DogPile has a whole different meaning.

Are you guys fed up with spammers coming to your directory and submitting spam sites? Are you tried of spending hours clearing up spam listings from your directory? Are you angry that your current captcha system is useless against smart spammers? Are you sick of seeing the same crappy sites being submitted over and over again in your directory? Are you sick of cleaning up after you vomitted blood? If you are, I have the perfect solution for your spam problem - Spank Mod!

What this mod does is to create a special feature in your PhpLD directory which spanks spammers if they come to your directory and submit spam sites. Yes, it is a good deterence against spammers who don’t want their butt to be spanked. Most normal spammers don’t, so you are safe.

If you are interested, please visit: Spank Mod You will find it a worthwhile investment!

Don’t let the name fool you, it’s not really a site which critics directories. It’s more like a listing of directories, both free and paid directories (general and niche). It has a ranking system for users to rate a directory, however from what I can see, it’s been abused to the point where it is no longer useful to the normal user. If you looked at their “high ranked” directories, those isn’t actually the best. But still, this site has a very comprehensive listing of directories which will be useful for you to do your link building. They have over 3700 directories as well as 500 article directories  in their database for you to submit your site to. All these in one site, very convenient I have to say.

If you own a directory yourself, you can also add it to their database. They have recently done a little facelift for their site, so some of the links are out. Don’t worry, I am sure they will get it working soon enough.

Please check out: Directory Critic.

Are you in anyway looking for Interior Designers or contractors? Perhaps you are planning to redo your kitchen or your pool area? Or you just have the new keys to your condo and you are looking for a contractor to build your dream home? Or maybe you are planning to redesign your office to suit your new corporate logo and identity? Or just maybe you are looking for some way to outclass your neighbour with the 4 storey Terrace? Well, fear not. I have just the list for you.

Please visit: Singapore Contractors and Interior Designers Listings. This listing has over 140 over companies specializing in renovation, construction, interior design and consultancy and I will be adding more soon. Take your pick from here. You can view their previous works and profiles from their websites and see which is suitable for you.

And if you have a directory and you are not willing to spend a few bucks on it to get Anon’s Deeplinks mod, you can try out rakCha’s solution. This free deeplink mod is for both phpkinkdirectory and eSyndicat.

Ahh…..one more site to introduce to you guys. It’s The Visual Thesaurus. This is a dictionary/thesaurus site with something very different. It has a “thinkmap” of words! Sort of like an easy way to visualize words and phrases. If you key in a word, it will branch out to other related words, definitions, synonyms and continue on, you get a more concise understanding of the word and it’s uses. As it is said on their website, writers use it as an “ideas generator”, while marketers use it to think up new names or slogans and teachers use it to spice up their lessons.

But this is not a free service. It cost US$19.95 per year for the online version. But I tried their little trial and was impressed. Anyone willing to sponsor me for a whole year?

It’s another one of those blog post again. Let me showcase another site - GsiteCrawler! And what do you get? A sitemap generator and if you are using Windows, you are in luck! You can use it! But seriously, this is a powerful piece of software, you can generate Google Sitemaps (XML), Yahoo Sitemaps (txt) and even RoR sitemaps. Heck, if you have the time, you can even create HTML sitemaps from it! It follows Robots.txt rules too. It also has a flexible URL list which you can edit or delete any URLs later on. And this software is available for free. If you are a Mac/Linux/Unix/Dos/AlienOS user, you need to look for other software to do the dirty work for you. Well, if you guys don’t mind me saying “I love my Windows”.

Wait, what’s a sitemap for you ask? A sitemap is sort of like a map of URLs, meant for Search Engine bots to easily navigate your site. Although it will not always follow what is shown on the (site)map, it probably will help your site get indexed faster and more efficiently. I think a sitemap is most important for a new website as it gives Search Engines a layout of your site for them to crawl.

Please visit: GSite Crawler.

If you are in Singapore and you are looking for a Spa Retreat, I have created a rather huge list of Beauty Spas which are available in Singapore. Note that the list is only for Spas which has a website. I am very sure that there are way more Spas in Singapore than what is seen on the list. It is also surprising to see so many spa businesses suddenly appearing in Singapore. Perhaps it is due to the hot and humid weather, or perhaps it is due to the stress or perhaps it is a status thing, but whatever it is, this industry is growing huge.

Please visit: Singapore Beauty Spas Listings and get pampered. I heard that even blokes go there. Maybe they are going there to get their nails done. For me, I would rather spend my money on important things, like food and ice-cream. I think that Spas are best left to women.

Oh, by the way, if your site (directory, forum or blog) gets attacked by some sort of stupid robot spam, you should head down to Jim Westergren’s site and read up on how to combat those monsters (Fighting The War Against Web Site Spam Bots). They have solutions for Wordpress, vBulletin, Phplinkdirectory and Aardvark Topsites Php. Ha, one of my directories got spammed by the thousands per week. No, I am not kidding. I can get about a thousand over submissions and all are crap from forums and what not. Me hate Spam bots.

Introducing TreeWalk DNS

April 21, 2007

Today I will be introducing you TreeWalk DNS. What is that you say? TreeWalk DNS is actually a DNS caching software for your PC. You know, when you type in an URL into your browser, it sort of changes to a few numbers called IP address in order for you to get to the site. Something is needed to “resolve” that URL or domain into IP address. These are called DNS Servers which stores part of these information. Part only? Yes, not complete. So if your DNS Server doesn’t have that address, it will “refer” to another that it thinks will have. But if that DNS server doesn’t have it too, it will refer to another and so on.

Okay, so what does this DNS Caching software does? It acts as an DNS Server by storing these addresses for you. So once it knows the address, it will no longer need to ask your ISP’s DNS Servers anymore (for a certain amount of time). Thus improving the speed of your surfing. Furthermore, Treewalk DNS can be “tweaked” to act as an authoritative DNS Server as well! This means that it can store addresses which other DNS servers can request information from. Yes, this is a pretty nice software and did I mention it is available for free?

I recently meet someone online and found out that she was very interested in Yoga. Ok, she is a staff of a Yoga Centre right here in Singapore. So, being a shrewd entrepreneur that I am, I decided to ask her to write an article on Yoga. And she did. Thanks to her, all you blokes will be able to read and understand what is Yoga and how will Yoga benefit you. And if you are living in Singapore, you should head down to International Yoga Centre and join up.

I don’t know about you guys, but Yoga looks rather painful to me. I see all those exercises and stretches, it kind of scares me off. Sure sure, call me a sissy but I know for a fact that it is tough. Very tough. And no, I am not very flexible either. I think I will stick with conventional exercises like sleeping and drinking.

If you want to have a healthy body and mind, you can read the article here: What is Yoga and it’s benefits?
