Freaking Warm Weather

April 30, 2007

Hoot! We have a extremely warm weather this entire week. It rains at night, but come morning, it feels like one oven in my room. I have a fan blowing at me, but all it blows is warm air. You sweat nearly immediately after you get out of the bath! Going out is like getting baked. All of us rush to air-conditioned shopping malls whenever we get the chance. I guess this is one of the disadvantages living in a tropical country. One of my friends living in Sweden told me I should consider myself lucky to be living in such a climate and not worry about sweaters or thick clothes. And he told me how dangerous driving is when the entire road is frozen and slippery rock. I guess this is also one of the disadvantages of living in a seasonal climate. But at least you guys get different kinds of weathers at different time of the year. Ours is baking weather all year round, except maybe November to December, we get a little breeze and rain.

So please forgive for complaining about the warm weather here in little Singapore. By the way, if you like to get baked, you should visit our country. You can get a fabulous tan here in no time.

I had faced this problem for quite sometime now, and I have come to the conclusion that it is all about links. If your content rich and unique page is linked from other sites, then very unlikely that it will go into supplemental index.

Here are some findings:

1. Even completely unique page with content will go into supplemental if your site is not trusted. I don’t know how and what criteria they use, but I have seen it. Supplemental index does not always mean duplicate content.

2. Internal links can help, acts as a backlink, so make good use of it to get out of supplemental. Try linking from your homepage for better results.

3. Pointing good quality links to your mainpage will help gain trust with Google, and thus you will have less pages going into supplemental.

4. Point links (preferly good quality links) to the page that went supplemental. It will go out of supplemental soon.

5. Text rich and unique pages will be less prone to supplemental. Kind of contradictory to the first point, but it is true.

6. Pages in the Supplemental results may be temporarily when Google does some sort of dance or shuffle. It will be out after a while (one or two weeks time?). Some however will be there for a long time if nothing is done about it.

7. Updating your page often can help. Having more text on your page can also help.

8. Sites with a lot of pages will tend to have some of them in supplemental. Perhaps it is due to internal linking problems or that Google doesn’t like too many pages of a same site clouding it’s search results, but this is what I have discovered.

Well, this is what I have. I will update this page if I can anymore information on this supplemental hell thing. Hey, if you have any comments or if you think what I say is wrong, please leave a comment. Thanks.

We all know that backlinks are important right? I meant for Google SEO, it is practically life and death. Almost everything depends on backlinks and anchor text. You get PageRank and improved rankings from them and thus these are highly sought-after by webmasters. There is even a huge market for the purchase and sale of links on the Internet due to this. Well, here are some unauthodox and sometimes “ingenius” ways to get links. Please note  that I am not encouraging you to use these methods to get backlinks. In fact, this article’s main objective to tell you guys how these people attempt to get links and what you should be looking out to stop these spammers. But it is pretty interesting to see what lengths these people go to in order to get links. Also to note, these could backfire, getting you banned in forums and even your site reported to Google for spamming! So don’t try these at home, boys! It’s more for the foolhardy.

Sneaky Bastard’s Way of Getting Backlinks. Hope you will enjoy it. I wonder how many of you have actually used these kind of “techniques” before in order to get links? And how effective was it, you sneaky one, you.

And you know what, yesterday, we got spammed! Someone posted a spam comment on this blog. I wonder how he/she got to know our blog? And don’t they know that all comments have the “nofollow” tag for their URLs? This type of spamming won’t work as it is useless. And I am sure people won’t click on it. But it was a good try. It also means that we are getting popular! Hahaha……..

If any of you are interested, I have more information concerning the magnificant and powerful Chateau de Chillon (Castle of Chillon) which sits on the shores of Lake Geneva. It is probably one of the most famous castle in the whole of Europe. And it is remarkably preserved as well. This is just a little history.

  • 12th century - Belonged to the Counts of Savoy who modified and enlarged it.
  • 13th and 14th century - Used by the Counts of Savoy as summer residence. And also as a prison. They added more fortifications to the existing ones.
  • 1536 - Captured by Bernese after they invaded from the North.
  • 1798 - Owned by Canton of Vaud after their independence.
  • 1816 - Chateau de Chillon was made famous by Lord Bryon who wrote the poem “The Prisoner of Chillon” about Francois de Bonivard who was a prisoner in the castle.

If you are looking for a modern day walkthough of the castle, you should look at the articles written by Scolls. It describes in detail the layout of the exterior and the interior of the castle.

Yes, my friend Scolls has completed the final and the best article on his travel to Chateau de Chillon - Chateau de Chillon Part 3. This is a long one, so please take your time, prepare a cup of tea and enjoy this final masterpiece. And it looks like the next travel article by Scolls will be on Belgium somewhere. I don’t know exactly where and I would like it to be a surprise as well. Maybe it’s about him meeting a murder detective?

Anyone know whether it is true that once in Switzerland there were laws against slamming the door of your car when you are in a city? That’s what I read from somewhere. I wonder if there were such laws, how is anyone going to close their car doors without slamming it? I have seem some cars with the automatic door closing system, but that would take a rather long time to just close one door.

If you would like to contact Scolls on article writing or for whatsoever reason, you can contact him on his forum - Search Engine Forums. Scolls is a busy man, but I am sure he will find some time to listen to your request or questions.

Arrg….guys I have a major problem. I have a email account which I have been using for years. However, the last few weeks, it kept going down, you know like cannot access to their POP, cannot send mails (SMTP), lost mails which appear a few weeks later and so on. Yes, it is a free email service provider, but come on. It has been happening on and off for a while now. Any problems should already be solved by now, right? And worse of all, since a lot of my contacts I used this email account and if I change, I will have lost many of them. And it’s going to be a hassle to notify all my contacts too.

My free email provider is MyRealBox. Once it was superb when it was owned by Novell. Now, after being sold to Messaging Architects (or something like that), it’s service went downhill. Messaging Architects my foot! It claims to provide anti-spam, anti-virus and tons of useful features but what the heck, I can’t even access my mails at times. I really hope it is not planning to do a paid service to get dumb people like me to sign up in order to get access to our emails. I guess what they say is right, don’t go for cheap stuff, it will come back and bite you in the ass. Lesson learned my friends.

Gaming time! Yes, let’s talk about computer and console games. If you are into gaming, you will find the next site I am going to introduce you very useful. GameFaqs is all about game codes, cheats, walkththroughs, hints and tips. You will a huge collection of hints and walkthoughs, from the very ancient games to the latest brand new games right here on this site. Console sets like PS2, PS3, Xbox, Wii, Gamecube and GBA are all represented here. Cool! A one in all gaming hints site. It even has my favourite Starcraft walkthough. Did you know that the game Starcraft is still being played regularly in Korea? Luckily, they are not like my friends and me, we are still playing Microprose’s Master Of Orion 2! In case you are too young to know what is Master Of Orion 2, it was released in 1996. Yes, just after Windows 95 came out. If you like more information of Master Of Orion 2, please take a look here.

But guys, remember games isn’t everything. There is beer, girls and my authority sites blog too. And sometimes, you may even need to pee as well. Just don’t do that in a bottle, go to the little boys room for god’s sake.

In digitalpoint forums, someone posted about Web Directories being garbage. While I cannot completely agree with him that this is so, there are a lot of directories which are in fact nothing more than link farms. Yes, those are garbage. I have seen “directories” with just thousands upon thousands of links, without much content. And they are basically useless to anyone.

However, there are a lot of directories which are not garbage. They are very useful, both in terms of getting rankings and traffic. And some directories can help your new site get indexed faster. But for me, I doubt that general web directories are ever good at driving traffic to their listings. Niche directories on the other hand, will be a good source of targetted traffic for their listings. Why? Search engines are rather bad at finding these kinds of sites, thus a human edited niche directory will be more of a value to searchers and visitors.

It would be interesting to note that since Google and their links started to play a huge part of our Internet, web directories have evolved from just listing sites on a topic or a subject to an powerful SEO tool. So, another point to directories. You may think that I am biased to directories because I own 2 directories myself, but in all seriousness, directories will remain an important part of the Internet till Search Engines come up with a foolproof way to find relevant results.

Okay, I have another article for you. This time it is on the fine art of corporate events catering handling. Yes, it is meant for someone in charge of handling and planning the food for a corporate event. So, if you are forced by your boss to plan such an event, this article will give you a little rundown on what to expect and what not to do. And I know, planning such an event, especially if it is big and involves a lot of big shots, it can be very nerve racking. The funniest thing about being in charge of such things, you feel like you are alone and no one even bothers. They only start complaining and commenting AFTER the event is over. Fools!  Hopefully, this will really help make things smoother. And yes, good luck!

Please visit: Corporate Event Food Catering and start impressing your boss today! And if you are in Singapore, you can take a look at our list of Singapore Food Caterers as well. That’s 100 over listings of catering businesses you can check out for yourself.

Looks like it is getting tougher and tougher to get sites into the authority sites directory. And it’s getting harder to find good sites and get good descriptions for them as well. I have done only 54 new sites since the last time and it’s seemed to me that it is going slow.

Or maybe it is just because I am getting lazy? Hmmmm……perhaps what I need is a good kick on the behind to get me really started? Anyways, remember last time I promised to hit 400 sites by the end of the month? Not going to happen. Sorry. If you guys know of any “authority sites” that are not listed on the directory, please let me know so that I can include them.

I was wondering whether getting the “authority sites” status requires you to get listed in DMOZ in the first place? I read in some forums claiming that the main criteria is getting into DMOZ and in time, Google will give you those extra organic URLs. Could this be true? I really hope not, because none of my sites are listed in DMOZ and it looks like getting into DMOZ is more difficult now. Worse still, there are reports of greedy and corrupt editors spoliting it for everyone. Bitches.
